It's basically one butthurt ex CMer wailing at the moon.

Geez, you still read that crap? Whole thing reminds Me of a toddler that has a never ending temper tantrum.

yep, I do an eye roll every time I peek in there.

While the flexibility the site offers for profiles and creation of groups is nice, their UI is absolutely horrific. If they made their groups function like normal forums, they would crush every other BDSM site into oblivion. I don't see that happening any time soon unfortunately.

I feel the same way about most of the people that post in the refugees group.

I am ambivalent about FL. I stopped posting and removed myself from some of the groups there because I didn't like a lot of what I was reading. And some group owners are quite the little Hitlers with the way they run their teeny domains (I won't name names). Some groups are amusing, like the classified meeting groups. Others that are more in line with my predilections tend to not be updated very frequently, and others are populated (it seems) by HNGs.

As for "Off The Grid", it can mean many things. At the furthest extreme it's a bunker somewhere in the Rockies, Tetons, or Appalachian ranges, all power is self-supplied, no phone or internet but they do have ham radio available (when they choose to break radio silence, that is), and they only go to town twice a year to pick up the things they can't make from stone, bone, fur, or scrap metal. At the nearest, it's having a backup generator and solar panels on the roof, and a hidden pantry with six month's of grub in a house located in the exurbs.

I personally am in arrangements to purchase a small plot of land about 60 miles from me. I've camped on it before, there's a well and a power line within hookup range, and its on a road that does receive some level of attention during the snow season. The only difficulty I have is, there are the remains of a cabin that need to be dealt with, and either constructing a new one or simply placing a travel trailer under a pole barn (it snows a lot here at times) instead. If I go off-grid, the only way folks'd know is when I cease communicating with them. That's living off-the-grid and under the radar.

In defence of Fet, their site does not crash nearly as often!

:D

Fet's servers certainly fetch pages faster.

Fetlife.com: Fast (1.12 Seconds), 65% of sites are slower.
Collarme.com: Average (1.53 Seconds), 51% of sites are faster.

I am not running an up-time logger on either site so I have no data logs to compare. But it seems to me that Fet's Ruby on Rails crashes off the rails a lot more often than CollarMe's cluster server with PDG software crashes . . . then again, CollarMe's SQL lags often. From the user performance side it's a lose/lose choice in my book. More like a question of which series crappy dysfunctions you can tolerate most easily.

Just bring matches. Problem solved.

I'm leaning more towards a minimalist contemporary sort of cabin, but I stumbled on this link> http://cabinporn.com/ and while they are all a bit rustic for me... there may be some good daydream fodder for you.

I want them all!!

I am on both Collarme and Fetlife, as it appear's a lot of people are on both. Both have their advantage's and disadvantage's. I am also aware of the "Collarme Refugee" group, although I didn't know there was a second group for that. I've seen a few people here on Collarchat go in that group for whatever their reason's are. I like both site's. Now the actual people on either site is one thing but the feature's of bith site's have their pluses.

I don't see much value for what you get with yurts, but some are very impressive!

littlewonder -> RE: -=Sometimes FetLife is so ironic, I just can't stay there long enough to even pick up the mail=- (8/25/2013 6:28:55 PM)

I go to fet maybe once every six months simply to find out about what the bdsm groups are doing around here or if there are any new ones being started up and such. Other than that, I can't stand the setup. It just hurts my eyes and brain.

As for off the grid, at work people use it to mean they will be unreachable while on vacation. They are not answering their phones or going on the net. They are taking a break from the chaos of the world.

Others I know use it to mean they are leaving municipal powers behind...no city sewer or water or electricity or gas. They are going full solar power, rain barrels, compost heaps, etc...but they still have internet which to me is kinda funny still for going off the grid and kinda defeats the purpose imo.

sexyred1 -> RE: -=Sometimes FetLife is so ironic, I just can't stay there long enough to even pick up the mail=- (8/25/2013 6:38:24 PM)

I don't like FetLife, it is so funny...people complain in Collarme Refugees about all the cliques and moderation here and yet all I see is cliques on FL. The navigation is a nightmare.

The only thing valuable to me, as someone seeking a partner, is that there is far more information on most profiles than on Collarme. Therefore, I can roll my eyes much more quickly and save time with the wrong people. I can see which groups they belong too, their fetishes go beyond the ones listed here and they usually have way more photos to be annoyed by.

I mean, honestly, if I see one more guy who posts 138 photos of different omen in various sexual positions, and only one tiny, grainy photo of himself asking to "friend" me I will shoot the screen.

And here this guy says, I would love to meet you for form a really solid relationship. I said, so what happened with the 138 other chicks? Did not work out? Shocking.

My apologies in advance because I'm clogging up your feed right now. I'm loading the first group of the 'holidays in wax' series and due to the high quality of the camera, the endeavor always seems to take quite a while. In other words, I have to find something to do while they upload.

Going off of the grid, I thought, was similar to what RS thought it meant. Meaning it included electronic communications as well. If I've learned anything living up here, it's that it takes a certain kind of individual to disconnect themselves from the world. I'd have gone total ape sh*t (sorry for the term) without the internet. Anybody who wants to attempt that kind of solitary life, more power to them, but there are a lot of things to miss without the interaction with others.

As to all things Fet, I think just about anybody who wants to be involved in their local community would be at a loss without being on that site. The quagmire of 'groups' can be daunting if just looking for interesting discussions, so that part is hit or miss. (I sincerely do prefer topic discussions here.) I'm still not crazy about the color scheme, but I have come to love the seemingly endless ability to load as many pics as I want.

Not everything in that cabin was meant to burn. It was built in the late 40's-early '50s and there's asbestos insulation and the paint is all lead-based. That was my first thought, but the guy I'm negotiating with nixed that right away. It's in a watershed and near farmland (apple orchard),and I don't want to be the source of any contamination. It's partly the reason why it's so cheap and no one else has snapped it up yet. The current owner (one of the guys in my club) got an estimate to have the site cleaned up, and it's an eye-opener. He's in failing health now, and just doesn't have the money to do it.

hlen5, a yurt would be nice, but for the money, I could just as easily get a used trailer, hardstand, and pole barn put up. Plus, if I did get one, how could I tell someone to go stand in the corner? They'd go insane trying to find one.[;)]

Aren't you all happy bunnies [:)]?

Ive been on fet since it more or less started, but I only read the collarmerefugees group, it is a source of hilarity, and I wont post in politics either, the insanity is stronger over there.

Id be happy to live away from society somewhere, but not without the interwebs... at least I can turn it off when I have had enough of some types of people.

PS my Fet feed has been down eight times this weekend.

. . . and a thousand jokes about "clogging" things up pass through my mind unspoken. Somehow, teasing a Domme about clogging me up just doesn't seem like it would end well for me. BTW, the holiday wax stuff is really very pretty.

I agree that Fet has some value in the social networking aspects. If there was one web site that held the social networking, profile surfing, forums and chat rooms . . . I think it would do very well. Fet's search a topic to get a menu system in the forums really bites.

Fet's platform is not the most desirable. It is Ruby on Rails . . . that is like the language the code is written.
