I absolutely hate when men tell me this. Anytime they have done this to me I usually stick my tongue out at them and keep on walking. Out of all things that annoy me that's probably in the top 5.

I think I get men telling me this on the streets about 2 times a week. I'm not upset. I'm not scowling. I just have a neutral look. If I have something to smile about then you will see me smiling. Otherwise, it's just gonna hurt my face to be smiling all day. No thanks.

Neutral expressions are considered scowling in Korea... thus the new smile surgery (this is not in fact a joke).

How annoying do the women here find this? Random strangers telling you how to rearrange your face?

Have any of you men actually heard this from someone you don't know on the street?

From the article:

"What is surprising is that so many people in these discussions don’t get just how entitled one must be in to order a perfect stranger to smile at them. At the very least, it’s rude, boorish, and rather obnoxious......"

and.....

"Last year in college I took a polisci class on feminism, and one of our assignments one weekend, after having read a piece by [Miss Manners], was to go out and basically do something that you wouldn’t expect someone of your gender to do. Most girls did things like open the door for their boyfriends or pay for dinner, but I went out and told random men on the street to smile. I’m Southern and a manners stickler, but let me tell you that I never had so much fun being balls-out rude in my LIFE. You’d think I had actually said something like “Did you know your penis is very, very small?” They were just appalled."

Wow.

Why wouldn't you want to smile?

You're one of God's magical creatures.

To be swayed by some claptrap college (kid) know it all's, or some foolish bullshit "study", only puts those of you which were born with rainbows in a horrible position....don't smile....don't bring what you uniquely were born with.

I love a woman's smile....it brings me energy.

It makes me happy.

A woman's smile is magical....it's warmth on a winter day.

our smiles are that way when they are inspired, not ordered.

Lookie,

Not wanting to smile doesn't enter into this. It's being TOLD TO DO SO BY RANDOM STRANGERS.

What prerogative does any other individual have to TELL someone they don't know how to arrange their facial features?

<------------------ Raised by a professional photographer. It's in some of my earliest behavior engrams to tell people to smile.

Being told by a photographer is appropriate if they are taking your picture at the time.

Along the same lines are people who tell me (TELL ME!) to have a good one.

Are you extracting the Michael, KS? It just means 'Have a nice day.'!
