ORIGINAL: lovethyself ..... on shoes. I'm not a girly girl at all, so when I want to dress up a bit, I'm totally lost. Normally I live in my running shoes, summer, winter, doesn't matter. This weekend, I'm going to a contra dance, and I want to dress up a bit. Not fancy, but a flowy skirt and top. But I have no clue what shoes would go with this. Help! You rang?! 25 years of contra dancing up and down the west coast have taught me your running shoes are ideal for this, especially a well-broken in pair. If you find that the soles grab too much while buzz stepping, slide an old sock over toe/ball of the foot part of the shoe. Contra folk are generally focused on comfort. Yes, we wear beautiful flowing skirts (men too!) and light tops, but that's mostly to keep cool since it's intensely aerobic. Congratulations, is this your first dance? I think you will love it! If you haven't danced before, have a look at this great video for a preview: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9L0dz3qmsc Wow, I hope we have a chance to meet some day. Between the acoustic music and contra, we seem to have several things in common. Have fun! Hope to see you on the floor sometime!
