I don't know. First you will have to tell me what a blind link is.

Yes, it was.

Now, here is an interesting link on that page...

http://petitions.moveon.org/sign/president-obama-dont-18
(This petition calls on President Obama to seek explicit congressional authorization before taking military action in Syria.)

Apparently, MoveOn.org backs the idea that the President should go through Congress for authorization.
    quote:

To be delivered to: The United States House of Representatives, The United States Senate, and President Barack Obama

    PETITION STATEMENT
President Obama must seek explicit Congressional authorization before taking military action in Syria, as required by the U.S. Constitution and the War Powers Resolution. Congress must insist that Congressional debate and vote precede any military action.

    Petition Background
On Sunday, August 25, Republican Sen. Bob Corker and Rep. Eliot Engel - a Democrat who voted for the Iraq war - told Fox News that President Obama should strike Syria first and get Congressional approval afterwards.
That's not how the U.S. Constitution says it should go. That's not how the War Powers Resolution says it should go. The Constitution and the War Powers Resolution say that absent an attack on the United States, Congress must approve military action before it takes place.
According to a recent Reuters/Ipsos poll, 60 percent of Americans surveyed said the U.S. should not intervene in Syria's sectarian civil war, while just 9 percent thought President Obama should act. Even if Assad's forces used chemical weapons to attack civilians - an allegation which has not been proved, and didn't hold up in the past - only 25 percent of Americans would support U.S. intervention, while 46 percent would oppose it.
On July 24, the House approved an amendment by voice vote that would prohibit funding of any military action that violates the War Powers Resolution.
If President Obama can get us into war in Syria without Congressional approval, it will set a terrible precedent: a future president can get us into war in Iran without Congressional approval.
Tell President Obama not to take any military action in Syria without Congressional approval, and tell Congress to stand up for the U.S. Constitution and the War Powers Resolution.
Links for the above information can be found here:
    http://www.dailykos.com/story/2013/08/26/1233940/-President-Obama-Don-t-Strike-Syria-Without-Congressional-Approval
[emphasis mine]

I find it interesting that the GOP is be decried for their insistence that the President get authorization prior to action, yet an openly progressive organization completely agrees with that stance.

A link you click, without knowing where it will take you.

This is a blind link

This is an open link:
https://www.google.com/

I use the blinds all the time, especially with very long addresses, as do a lot of people, but there is an element of trust involved, and there should be a bit of courtesy, when it comes to heavily partisan sites, or common virus carriers like the LA Times.

Actually, if you mouse over the link, your browser will display where it goes even without clicking on it (at least for links here in this forum) so it's never totally a blind link. I do that in order to avoid clicking on links to YouTube, since every time I click on a YouTube link lately, my browser crashes. Not sure why.

I agree it would be nice to preface any posted link with a couple lines of explanation. I've seen some posts where there's just a link and nothing else, and those are the ones I'm less likely to click on (even if it's not a blind link).

TheHeretic -> RE: Kerry On Syria (9/1/2013 7:41:54 AM)

Depends on the browser, Zonie. Mine just highlights a bit, and underlines to show it as something active.

I don't know much about "Move On" specifically, but I think if an individual or organization defines their principles and sticks by them, then there's nothing particularly surprising about that.

But if one's principles keep shifting or changing based on whichever party controls Congress or the White House, then that's what people might decry (and I see it happening on both sides).

HuffnPoo is the worst. Crashes this computer every single time. If something looks really worthwhile, I'll use another device to get there.
