Recently Facebook has said they're going to increase it's profile picture recognition feature to collect a database of all users. http://rt.com/news/facebook-profile-picture-recognition-208/ What are thoughts, if any? User friendly service or another database to be used by government agencies? I wonder how much Zuckerbergs going to get for this information...

For some reason it doesn't surprise me that Germany and Ireland have said no way but the US will.

You need to use CV Dazzle™... It is camouflage from computer vision (CV). It is a form of expressive interference that combines makeup and hair styling (or other modifications) with face-detection thwarting designs. http://cvdazzle.com/ Or don't ever post any pics of yourself or let any friends, etc do that either.. No idea what the reasons for FB doing this crap, I am sure there are gonna be unwanted consequences tho.. Facebook sucks..

Everyone with a Facebook page should start distributing the same photo to everyone they know there and remove their personal pics. Let the NSA try to reconcile millions of users that all look the same. [:D]

I cancelled my Facebook account a few months after I opened it. I didn't really think too much of it from the start, but I got talked into opening account by someone I knew. It wasn't too long before I regretted it. But cancelling it isn't enough, since I see the Facebook logo everywhere. I turn on the radio and they say to check out their Facebook page. A few months ago, the local newspaper website changed their format for people wanting to comment on news stories so that people have to have a Facebook account to post their comments. I've seen the logo on storefronts and outdoor advertisements. I figure the NSA would be able to gain information from Facebook or most other private sector sources which hold information on the general public. I know people who refuse to use those grocery store discount cards since it records your purchases. If they wanted to, the NSA could likely find out what kind of toilet paper you buy and cross reference with the brands of toilet paper preferred by terrorists. No doubt the NSA's equivalent of "Barney Fife" is working on that right now, concluding that those who squeeze the Charmin are a danger to America and our way of life.

Much like online anything, it's only fake if you make it fake. edited to add: To the original question, this has nothing to do with the NSA who already has or has access to all those photos whenever they want and already has facial recognition software of their own (which is likely quite a bit better than anyone else's IMO). I can't figure out what value the NSA would have by driving this.

As well I have FB pages for our businesses and it is a great way to get the word out about products or services. With that said, im very careful about what I post when it comes to anything personal. My husband has several thousand "friends" mainly due to his interests. In all fairness, we've met and then met in real life several folks who turned out to be uber cool. As with most online sites, I do not think that is typical...

I can understand that, and I am fine if a business wants to supplement their business with fb.. But what I am referring to are businesses that are national or multi city but force you to have a fb page if you want to deal with them.. Your choice is to set a fb page up or they don't want your business.. Or like. Yesterday.. I wanted to read more about a company but to view their full info on their website I must sign in on fb.. I don't want to be forced onto fb by these businesses.. That is not the way to do things, IMO. Would Carol turn down business when the potential client wasnt on fb? that is what I am talking about.. When I did have a fb page was a long time ago & I wasnt on there seriously, and now people have much more privacy on fb, although perhaps not from advertisers.. Sure I can see how people can be pro fb, and like you keep your network only people you know..

Absolutely. .. businesses that only go through FB are shooting themselves in the foot as more and more opt out. There's enough free blog options. I read an article the other day how common it's becoming for employers or potential employers to ask for FB info. One of the main things that creep me out is how many other sites that are linked to FB. That whole create an account or "sign in with your FB account".

With image re-processing/make up recognition. That does not work any longer. "Dazzle" is from WWII - it is kind of old and is/has met its match. http://www.cse.msu.edu/~rossarun/pubs/ChenMakeupDetection_ICB2013.pdf There are a lot better reports if you look using keyword biometrics . That should be a start.
