Yes, I would give a copy of my driver's license to a total stranger. But the address is fake and I have maintained a fake address for the past 40 years. A license may be of some assurance to some people, but anyone that wants to avoid detection, like ex celebrities and serial killers, can do so with ease. I even have a gold star on my license which means I proved my the information status on my ID per Homeland Security standards and the "real ID" act. All my bills, utilities, bank accounts and charge cards are registered to a paid mail box service. I hired that local paid mail box service using my old license that was registered to a different paid mail box service. It's not a spycraft. I was a local celebrity in the entertainment industry when I learned about stalker/fans in the 70s. When I saw that rock stars had PO Boxes on their checks, I picked up the trick and I have maintained a safe home ever since. I guess you could say Patti Smith taught me that trick. :) The point is, your instincts are what will keep you safe. Safe calls, cell GPS and ID exchange are good standard practice but will only help weed out the wankers, not someone that is is seriously dangerous.
