ORIGINAL: ARIES83 If only some more noble fate awaited you than being demolished to take my internet browsing history to your grave... One of the nice things about iPhones is that devices since the 3GS with up-to-date software automatically use relatively robust full filesystem encryption, so your browsing history has some protection if you set a passcode, and will (along with all data on the device) be completely unrecoverable once the Effaceable Storage holding the keys gets wiped. You should do this via the "Erase All Content and Settings" option before transferring ownership of a used device to anyone else. So, there really isn't a need to take the retiring 4S out to the woodshed to silence its secrets… unless you just enjoy delivering beatings to electronics, of course. :) quote:
Is anyone here planning on getting the 5S? What rumoured features are you looking forward to? Probably. Apart from general performance improvement, the high speed camera mode is one of the more interesting rumored hardware upgrades to me. A fingerprint sensor on the home button is nearing the as-confirmed-as-rumors-get range at this point, although to me personally it's probably not much of a selling point. quote:
Do you think the iPhone is even worth it anymore in the midst of all the alternatives out there? At least when they are first released, even on a purely hardware level, iPhones tend to be competitive value-wise with other phones out there - plus they still hold resale value much better. App selection and quality still generally has an edge, albeit a narrowing one. Major OS software updates remain available for older devices, albeit sometimes with what are probably somewhat artificially restricted features. Unless you are really set on a specific feature an iPhone doesn't offer, like a large screen, they are worth a look. I personally prefer them, but then I generally prefer Macs too.
