I remember the Tandy in high school when I was a senior. Played a lot of Lemonade Stand on it.

I remember selling lots of the Tandy Sensation computers when I was working for Radio Shack. When I had to work with my disabled customers, I used the MSDOS system to understand what they want (no one else wanted to deal with them). When I got transferred to other stores, they followed me. When a sorority had an antique cable system (before fiber optic cables), I was able to come in, DXed what needed to be done and got a good commission on the sale...while pregnant with Lizard.

Now we got an all in one printer (scanner, printer and copier). I have a HP with Windows 7 that has not given me any problems, satellite broadband. I play on a MMORPG as therapy, another gaming site for Mom and me and several forums to chat on. I can pay for my bills online, get my bus tickets and keep in contact with Lizard.

I calculated, several years ago, what the computing power of a typical, enthusiast (not the top end) graphics card would cost, in 1961 when the first supercomputer was built.

The answer was... several times the GDP of the entire planet.

Your cellphone has TRILLIONS of dollars worth of computing power in it (well, in 1961).

Seriously, I never really thought about it, but technology has come a long ways.

The first color TV my family bought was 4 feet wide, 3 high and 2 deep. It took four men to bring it in to the house and it was considered a piece of furniture.

I remember the first moon landing, hell I remember some of the Gemini missions.

I remember when the 747 was considered state of the art in air travel.

But what really brings it home was this image.

When I was a kid, I had to walk through 7 miles of snow covered gravel road (barefoot) to send an email.

Uphill...and...it was uphill again to get home!
