Some would say the same regardless of him carrying fuel or not. [:D]

That sounds like you're in favor of stifling free speech because it might be used by some other person as reason for killing. While that may have merit, it sure sounds like you're completely ignoring that the other person chose to kill.

This raises an interesting point.
There would be no doubt that bigots like this would be breaking the law if they incited their own followers to violence. Yet the argument you posed, "you're completely ignoring that the other person chose to kill" could apply just as much to their own followers too. It could be argued that the followers 'chose' to commit violence, hence the person doing the inciting isn't responsible for their actions.
My feeling is that if speech or actions leads to violence, and known to lead to violence then it comes under the microscope. Who commits the violence - friend or foe - isn't as important as the intent behind the words and actions.

Then, "latent" incitement would be included. What of the Imams that support their followers that go apeshit when a douchbag like Jones exhibits his ignorance? Or, the "black power" preachers whose followers get all worked up when some racist shit-for-brains kills a black person for nothing other than race?

The same standard must be applied to all, without fear or favour. When it can be shown that the intent was to knowingly provoke violence, then the person responsible ought to have to account for his/her words and actions to justice.

But, Pastor Jackwagon here wouldn't be provoking violence with his stupidity if those that would react hadn't already been "indoctrinated" to do so. I guess what you're saying is to make sure it's known that you're followers "know what to do," so that anything that incites them is no longer on you.

Well, that's true but at least when he's just driving around without fuel soaked books, he's not likely to kill innocent people.

In this particular case, the intent is obvious.

and where do you stand on the media inciting violence in the trayvon martian case?

the point is you tread on a veryyy slippery slope when you any speech that could reasonably incite violence should be a chargeable offense...

so I have to disagree, when an action or speech is put forth with the intent to cause a reaction, its up to everyone to DECIDE what that reaction IS! they can decide to see the speakers point and change course, or decide to react in a violent way, or even decide he is crazy and IGNORE him.

yeah soorry but I am done with the whole, they MADE ME DO IT excuse!

I would have loved to have seen the local Christian churches gather there in protest to his antics. Would have been a wonderful testament to free speech and religious tolerance.

What do you think might be the reason for the deafening silence of religious groups to denounce this sort of thing in the most strident of terms?

Perhaps they are giving Pastor Jones no more media and fame than he deserves.

Right. People go to jail for traffic infractions all the time. I'm sure stifling unpopular speech had nothing whatsoever to do with any of this...

According to the article he did not go to jail for a traffic infraction.
He went to jail for a felony.
I do not understand why he was also charged for "open carry". Idi not know that as illegal in fla.
What might we expect if a muslim were to stage a similar bar-b-q with bibles?
Omg dueling bar-b-qs

Or perhaps they agree with him.

I knew that's what you were implying.

I wouldn't be surprised to find out that Jones' supporters could be found in every Christian religion. Misguided fools, though they may be.
