I was skimming the NFL thread and suddenly realized that I really no longer follow professional sports. I just cant seem to be bothered to sit and watch pro baseball or football, I seem to get bored as hell.

However, every home game that my high school plays, I am there. I dont have any kids on the team, none of them are related, but I seem to enjoy the games more. When my old school is away, I go and watch one of the other high school teams in town play.

During the spring, I watch the local high school baseball teams play, and have more fun than I did at the last three Ranger's games I attended.

I used to go to sports bars to watch the games, but lately I have found myself going to a dive that caters to active duty and former military patrons.

I dont miss my high school days of playing football or baseball.

I think either I am growing old or I have lost my mind.

Anybody else noticed any changes of interests since you have aged?

I've changed a little but still have a lot of time for some more changing.

When I was in high school, I was a cheerleader. My parents went to every game to "support me". I personally believe my dad was ecstatic because it was an excuse to attend the games. I loved that, whether he was there just for me or not.
I would say it definitely is a much different atmosphere than a professional game. Some kids are playing for their future, some because they just love playing. They have dreams and I think that adds to the game. Pro players act as though it's just another day of work - which it is for them.

I don't think it's because you're getting older or losing your mind. I just think you've found something that you enjoy.

I have to admit to a certain level of concern over developing a taste for curling. I think the Canadian government puts something in the water. That is the only feasible explanation.

The Man is nominally an Eagles fan. But he absolutely loved the years my son played high school football. By myself, I wouldn't have driven an hour and a half to attend some of the away games, but he always insisted we went.

Admittedly, my view toward away football games is colored by nearly hitting a bear driving to that first one.

He ran out on the road as I was coming around a curve. Scared the shit out of me.

Just a cub but that was enough.

There was a bear that did regularly piss me off. During a drought year, he kept coming down and raiding the garbage can. Which was bad enough but what pushed me over the edge was coming home and discovering he hadn't just dragged the bag back to his feeding area, he'd taken the damn can too!

Around here we dont have bears.

We do have a subspecies of cougar we call a Mexican panther.

A local game warden kept insisting that none of those critters had been in this part of Texas in years, until he found one lounging on his truck one morning after spending the evening tracking some poachers.

I cant help but think that cat had heard what the warden had been saying and just had to prove him a liar. Cats are like that you know.

That's pretty funny. Yup, typical cat.

We have mountain lion here. At least there are about 30 sightings a year however until someone hits one with a car and they have a skin, the DEC won't state categorically they exist.

I've seen one a couple of times, the only way I can describe it is that it's something you don't want to meet in a dark alley.

I used to simply devour fiction. Sci-Fi, horror, fantasy, crime, spy thrillers, historical fiction, I'd sit down with a novel, and that would be the last anyone would see of me until I was done. Today, I might start 3 a year, and bother to finish 1 of them weeks later. World War Z was the first novel I flat vanished into in years.

It started when I first moved to California. Portland ruined me. My idea of a bookstore is Powell's. I played in the aisles there when I was in kindergarten, and have never once failed to find something I wanted to read before even passing the display tables in the lobby of their city block of rooms. Living on a minimalist budget in a SoCal backwater might as well have been a desert island.

While my lifestyle and finances improved, something changed in that dry spell. Fiction just doesn't engage me anymore. I'll get 50-100 pages in, and realize I don't give a crap. I don't read as many non-fiction books these days either, but with the internet, I go through a lot more features and articles on a far wider variety of topics.

I was never into sports. I can watch football( the real kind, not soccer) if I have money on the game.

Except when it comes to the Lafayette-Lehigh game. That game is all about school pride and if Lafayette loses the players are pariahs for the rest of their college career. Which is deserving if they lose to Lehigh.

No.

Here's how it works (some get it earlier.....some later....I'm here, 6 - 9, Pacific, weekdays except those days when I'm not even remotely on that schedule):

One side wins.

One side loses.

(I swear...it happens like fucking clockwork).

The side that loses....they get all bent outa shape....(see above).

The other side....well....they were destined.

Happens every time.

(My Mom told me I was destined to know the truth).
