ORIGINAL: RumpusParable Not all males are men, not all females are women. is that so? i know youre probably referring to transgenderism, but i would have said a trans-man is both male and a man, and a trans-woman is both female and a woman. Not to derail this discussion, but the term trans as an umbrella term includes a large amount of ways to identifiate and does not include people with intersex conditions. i'd imagine most transsexual men identify or define themselves as being both male and a man, but not everyone. And yes, then there are transgendered people who also form a diverse group of different definitions/identities/bodies/genders/whatever. i personally identify as a transgendered person and prefer the pronoun "she" even though i do not view my gender to be female or my sex to be conclusively woman. But, alas, i live in a society where majority of people recognize two genders/sexes and i do try to conform when necessary. ^_^ As for the topic - in my native tongue the pronouns are not gender specific so it's fairly easy to talk about people in a gender neutral way. Out of the terms i prefer the gender-neutral ones (Dominant, submissive, slave, switch, D-person, s-person, fetishist, etc.). For some people gender/sex is important when talking about people/potential play partners and when at liberty i do not see trouble in disclosing those about people. But when unsure, i do not disclose that information either. Unless it's about me. i always love to talk about myself. :D
