theshytype -> A warm up to needles (9/12/2013 8:08:42 PM)

I do not have much of a problem with needles.  When I need blood work, I always have them try my right arm first (I'm left-handed) knowing full well that after several stabs, they'll have to move on to my left anyway.  When I was younger, I often played with safety pins, sticking them in my skin and fastening them.  And, even pierced my own belly button many years ago.  So, not really afraid of needles.
However, knowing myself, I'd have some trepidation going into my first scene with needles.

I was curious, for those of you that do needle play, do you just get right down to it or have a "warm up" to relax them?  For me, not sure which would be better.  While the warm up would prolong my jitters and most likely not relax me, that prolonging may actually add to the overall experience.

Just curious to others' preferences and experiences from both sides.  What that warm up typically consists of, if any warm up at all. If none, why.

LadyPact -> RE: A warm up to needles (9/13/2013 12:06:37 AM)

I'm actually cool with the bottom having the choice in this matter. What works for them is what we'll do. However, I do tend to have more fun with folks who don't need the warm up. I've only done impact play for warm up before needles. If it's at a play party, that bottom may have already had another scene before playing with Me, so it's hard to know if they were warmed up by somebody else.

The advantage of the warm up is that the endorphins are already going for the bottom before the needles actually start. Folks who love to be the receiver of the needle play generally don't want one because they know they are going to be flying relatively quickly once the scene starts. Personally, I happen to prefer folks who love needles as much as I do, rather than those who are just tolerating it for Me. This is one of those areas where them enjoying the play leads to more enjoyment on My end. The more they fly, the more I do.

I can't help you from the bottom's perspective, but I hope I helped from the top one.

asanaambitions -> RE: A warm up to needles (9/13/2013 12:48:34 AM)

A number of years ago I went to a needle play class with a partner of mine. I was sooooo nervous before hand and I nearly backed out of trying it. My reaction to the needle actually going in? "THAT'S IT?!?!" If I might be so bold, perhaps for your first scene your Dom/Top/Whatever could do a single endorphine button? They're lovely because they get the quick endorphine high that Lady Pact talks about, they look cool, can be done with the thinner gauges (thinner needles tend to hurt less) and I've found them to be great for introducing newbies to needles (I've done more than a few scenes since then, mostly as a Top). And of course it can be added onto if the bottom wants more [8D]

P.S. My favourite spot for the endorphine button is the chest area because I've had many a sub sit there and poke it continually with a grin unlike any other. I guess it's called an endorphin button for a reason, eh?

MariaB -> RE: A warm up to needles (9/13/2013 3:07:04 AM)

I only have 2 needle bunnies now that I am prepared to pierce. One likes to get straight into it, though she can't initially have needles on her back, near her kidney area before the actual piercing session has warmed up. The other enjoys a light flogging on the back first and always wants needles in the back as the initial piercing warm-up.

I am Steve's needle bunny and we tend to go straight into piercing without any previous warm-up but then I can only take needles when I'm in the mood and I can't make that mood happen. If I'm not in the mood the needles just hurt and for me, that's not what needles are all about. When I'm in the mood (LadyPact and me spoke about this recently) the needles just slide through my skin like in like a knife through butter and they don't hurt at all.

I think a warm up for me is being pampered. I have to feel relaxed and have some good music playing and I have to be ultimately very comfortable. I'm kind of zoned out before the first needle!

I am a trained piercer and so I have come across a lot of people having a piercing that are very nervous about the pain. I always say, 'If you don't fear pain you won't feel it' Fakirs words not mine! and I tell them to give me a big smile as the cannula goes in. Its amazing what smiling does. My favourite needle bunny smiles in ecstasy all the way through a needle session and she's just delightful to watch.

petitespot -> RE: A warm up to needles (9/13/2013 7:02:37 AM)

I have a biiiig box of needles in my closet. Never used on me. 8(
I would handle it better with no warmup.
Just go to town and stick, pierce, impale me wherever with no warning.
That whole idea gets me off. Same with cutting and burning.

Missokyst -> RE: A warm up to needles (9/13/2013 9:09:01 AM)

I don't think I have ever had a warmup unless you count the viewing of the box of needles. Nervousness is my warmup for most things

theshytype -> RE: A warm up to needles (9/13/2013 11:04:53 AM)

LP, your perspective does help (as always).

Asanaambitions, I think your reaction to your first time would be mine as well. I think that's why I'd be hesitant to just jump right in.

I get off on fear so that anticipation beforehand would drive me crazy (in a good way), I believe.
But, I have also heard that jumping right in gets you that high faster.
This is why I'd prefer someone to make that decision for me!

Thanks all for your thoughts and tips!

LadyPact -> RE: A warm up to needles (9/13/2013 11:35:37 AM)

Thank you. That was very nice of you to say. [:)]

I know the first time has importance but the great thing is that it doesn't have to be the only time. Whichever way you go, (warm up or not) you could always try the other alternative the next time around. That way, you know which works better for you as an individual. Plus, that means you get to play more, which is always good. [;)]

HarryVanWinkle -> RE: A warm up to needles (9/13/2013 3:47:59 PM)

I don't recall ever having had a warm up for needle play. I do recall having had needle play BE the warm up to more painful play more than once.

Kana -> RE: A warm up to needles (9/13/2013 3:53:38 PM)

I tie her up in something that prevents most movement (Think mummification sorta stuff, saran wrap, duct tape, things like that),hood and gag her, tie a vibe in that special spot, then leave her be in total darkness and watch football for an hour or so. by the time I get back, she's so far dropped that she usually doesn't even feel the first 5 or so needles much at all. Then she slowly comes up and into the needles, feeling more and more of em with each new entry.
It's a pretty awesome play.
Her mind is still so she's not doing that internal freaking that occasionally occurs, and I get to watch some ball before torture.
That's a win win from this cats POV.

But I almost never go directly into needles. There's always some action done to drop her first

I like the way you think.

That is true. It doesn't have to be just a one-time thing. I have a tendency to do that, looking at things as if it'll be the last time and imagine worst case scenarios.
Something tells me I'd enjoy the experience and want more.

littlewonder -> RE: A warm up to needles (9/14/2013 10:05:30 AM)

No warmup. Needles don't bother me and I don't really find them painful unless he hits a nerve or something. Then he just moves it to somewhere else.

I can't say I've ever been afraid of needles even when giving blood. I was into needles even when I was young and before bdsm.

ResidentSadist -> RE: A warm up to needles (9/14/2013 11:24:24 AM)

Warm up, not always. The shock of a needle through your nipple usually brings you around to the right head space instantly.

7 am, she wakes up. I stick a needle through each of her nipples . . . as they penetrate her I slowly twist them doe maximum effect. Then cork'em off and cut her pussy to ribbons while she has multiple orgasms.

On another day, I might flog her or spank her to get her warmed up. But starting a scene (or starting the day) with a brutal, painful, twisting needle through her nipple really sets the tone of things to come. And she falls right into the head space instantly.

samdarella -> RE: A warm up to needles (9/14/2013 11:58:10 PM)

LMAO. Yes that's Master's idea of warmup to needles. "This is going to hurt!". As usual He is right. It hurts. After care " Here's a napkin. You're dripping blood.".

ResidentSadist -> RE: A warm up to needles (9/15/2013 7:38:16 AM)

How true. Aftercare is so important . . . "here's a napkin, you're bleeding." And foreplay is important too. Even if it is just to say, "this is gonna' hurt."

I am such a giver.

That's interesting because its the opposite of anything I have ever seen or felt. I often find the first half dozen needles uncomfortable but after that I don't feel them, even the big ones. After about 20 needles you can stick a flesh hook in me and I won't feel it.

MariaB -> RE: A warm up to needles (9/15/2013 9:22:31 AM)

I never want my needle bunny to feel pain. I can be quite a sadist in many things regarding BDSM but I don't really consider needle play as BDSM. Same with flesh hooks.

I suppose because I feel like I'm flying when I have needles and flesh hooks (and thats not submissive flying) I want my needle bunny to feel what I feel. I want her to venture on that endorphins journey that I know so well. I have found that those who writhe in pain, don't reach that journey and that gives me no pleasure as the giver. I like to be the gatekeeper, allowing her in and bringing her back when I feel its time.

I want to lay with her after and talk and laugh about her journey. When I have needles, I'm in control but I still love having the giver lay with me after and listen to my experience. There needs at least for me and my needle bunnies, a beginning, a middle and an end.

This made my nipples cringe.
So I'll have to edit my original statement. I'm not really afraid of needles unless my nipples are being threatened.

Thank you for sharing this. I think this is lovely.
