Content aside, there's a jarring and rather ironic disconnect between the terms "brilliant expose" and "Washington Post: Opinions."

FR
Krauthammer is whining about a speech that Obama gave explaining his reasons for feeling a strike is needed? I've searched and searched but all I've found is him cheerleading for W and the Iraq invasion. Why should we believe a guy who supported an invasion and occupation over fake WMD is now opposed to taking limited action against a scumbag who really did use WMD?

Why do these neocon cretins believe no one remembers their behavior a few years ago?

Over fake WMD eh?

While it is true that no significant stock piles of WMD's were found, it is nonetheless true that Hussein had a much longer history of using them. Against the Kurds, against the swamp people, against the Iranians. He specifically used chemical weapons in artillery shells to break the Iranian wave attacks.

Regardless.

The NY Times, the Post, der Spiegel, the Huffington Post - virtually every
major newspaper is leading with the disastrous and incompetent foreign policy and your responce is:

Its Bushes fault?

Snicker.

Yes, fake WMD. Iraq had none and the and the intelligence services and UN inspectors never found even a hint that they had retained anything after 1992 or that they had restarted the programs.

No, I'm saying that Krauthammer is a partisan of the worst sort who is faking outrage now after cheerleading for the pointless deaths of hundreds of thousands of people in pursuit of nonexistent WMD. The President is trying to disarm the Syrain government without dropping any bombs or killing anyone. Is that not a goal to be pursued?

OrionTheWolf -> RE: Brilliant expose on O's diplomatic incompetency (9/13/2013 5:15:39 PM)

Sure if it does not involve the use of military assets. We could hope that he also puts the same or more time into budget issues, alternative fuels, and other things that have a direct impact on Americans.

You also say without dropping any bombs, but we has been trying to gain support for military strikes. Those two things do not seem to reconcile one with the other.

FFS what a slight of hand this pile of crap is........ NO WMDS were found, according to the American led Iraq Survey Group.

Why does the right continue to spout this nonsense. Even Bush said as much.

Yet consider what’s happened over the last month. Assad uses poison gas on civilians and is branded, by the United States above all, a war criminal. Putin, covering for the war criminal, is exposed, isolated, courting pariah status.

And now? Assad, far from receiving punishment of any kind, goes from monster to peace partner.

I don't think it's been conclusively proven that Assad used poison gas on civilians. According to what I read in the NYT last SAT, members of Assad's team were beside themselves over their use without any authorization. I have yet to read who in fact used the poison gas. Putin, in his editorial claims the rebels used it to induce military action against Assad.

Krauthaumer makes some good points in his editorial, but his diatribe is lacking in whole and in part any kind of solution or recommendation that he thinks is appropriate. He also implies that the US and Russia can't share power in the Midddle East and work together in any kind of way. One thing about a Russian influence, it will help militate against Islamic extremism.

He also doesn't give Putin his due for noting that US military interventions in the region have been disastrous.

Since when is it incumbent for a opinion piece writer to proffer a solution in order to critique? By that standard, we should damn near every writer who opined on peace in the middle east.

Thats like saying a sports writer should be able to hit .360.

TheHeretic -> RE: Brilliant expose on O's diplomatic incompetency (9/13/2013 6:32:49 PM)

Simple fact. The President and our new SecState have led the country into an epic clusterfuck of their own incompetentcy.

I think the homoerotic/phobic slurs so rampant in the early part of this thread establish that this is clearly understand by those who support this President no matter what. No amount of spin or flinging blame at Republicans is going to change it.

They fucked up, BADLY, and the American people know it.

Sports writers always offer alternatives and solutions. In WASH they might say management made a mistake by starting RGIII instead of Kirk Cousins. Krauthaumer really has no idea what to do. So, if he doesn't know the right course of action, how can he call Obama's inaction "incompetence?"

The editorial cartoon named the four options: which one do you pick and why? Next, would you want a leader to rush his decision here when the facts of the chemical weapons attack remain murky, allies are split, American public opinion is against entanglement, and Al Qaeda fighters are heavily mixed in with the rebels?

It's no wonder Krauthaumer bloviates about Obama's "incompetence" while shutting up about what the US should do.

---------

TheHeretic: epic clusterfuck Really? Looks to me like you are again hoping for that elusive Obama scandal. Sorry you had to lay a wreath over your dreams of an IRS special prosecutor. God knows that stirred up your hopes and dreams.

TheHeretic -> RE: Brilliant expose on O's diplomatic incompetency (9/13/2013 6:41:35 PM)

Cloudboy, you are treating an editorial cartoon as if it is some sort of reputable analysis. It isn't. It's one of those "joke" things. People who agree with the opinion it is founded in will find it "funny," and perhaps "laugh." It points out that the President has been painted into a corner, but completely ignores that he, and later his SecState, were the ones doing the painting.

Please Google any of the quoted terms, if they pose a communication barrier.

cloudboy -> RE: Brilliant expose on O's diplomatic incompetency (9/13/2013 6:42:54 PM)

Answer the question: which of the four options would you pick and why.

Ok. So while the smoke pours from ears elsewhere (I'm picturing the computer, at the end of Logan's Run), let's just take the incompetence of the administration for getting the country into this spot as stipulated, and ask the question in a more rational way.

Where do we go from here?

You said "No significant stockpiles" if you had said "No stockpiles" then you would have indeed agreed with me.

I answered this on another thread Rich. I cant recall which.

The problem is there are no easy alternatives for President Obama. Every single choice is filled with risks for the US.

He degrades Assads miltitary and that would give the rebels the upper hand. That could make way for an Islamist regime.
He supplies the rebels with better arms, such as stinger missiles. Such weapons could fall into Islamist hands.
He does the above and continues with the CIA supplying small arms to the rebels..... Assad retains the upper hand.
He does nothing and Assad gets back control of Syria, with all the horrors that would entail.
He has faith in the Russians and hopes that they wont re-supply Assad in the meantime.... Dodgy to say the least.

Every possible solution to this shitfest is filled with risks. I think trusting Russias good faith may be the only alternative at this time. If there is sadkly another chemical attack, at least then the UN, Europe etc would be more likely to form some sort of coalition.

Obama fucked up with the use of the term "Red Line" that`s the problem with using hollow rhetoric.

I also feel both Obama and Cameron have significantly failed to read the mood of the public in the UK and US due to Iraq.
