And the more we find out, the worse it gets.

"Are you sexually active? If so, with one partner, multiple partners or same-sex partners?” Be ready to answer those questions and more the next time you go to the doctor, whether it’s the dermatologist or the cardiologist and no matter if the questions are unrelated to why you’re seeking medical help...

"This is nasty business," says New York cardiologist Dr. Adam Budzikowski. He called the sex questions "insensitive, stupid and very intrusive..."

Doctors and hospitals who don’t comply with the federal government’s electronic-health-records requirements forgo incentive payments now; starting in 2015, they’ll face financial penalties from Medicare and Medicaid...

The administration is ignoring these protests from privacy advocates. On Jan. 17, HHS announced patients who want to keep something out of their electronic record should pay cash.

Gee, couldn't they just check with the NSA?

Patients need to defend their own privacy by refusing to answer the intrusive social-history questions.

I figured this out decades ago.

FR,

I'm not surprised at all.

I smiled at your NSA statement.

I am having some difficulty finding anything showing that HHS will charge people if they don't answer the questions. Do you have any sources (I understand you only quoted the article and that the article didn't give any)?

One, I don't know if it says all that shit. It is really doubtful, since it is a hit piece, with no actual fact, no citation, no link to the section.

Secondly, do people actually hide things or lie to their doctors? I am gonna tell you what, the Mayo, who has a grand history of diagnosing and fixing things that no other hospital does, is gonna ask if your great great great great great great grama was known to take it in the ass.

The more complete your history is, the more chance you have of getting a good outcome to any problem.

I totally agree with you that the ol' Mayo can improve almost anything. And if it fails, there's always Miracle Whip.

Big deal?

You can always lie, if you want to hide it. The fact is without question that those questions do impact the reproductive system, among other systems, health wise. Its good medicine.
Just my spin on it, I don't mind.

Yeah, you're right. I can see you going to the doctor and it going something like:

"Doctor, I have a broken toe"

"Okay. How often do you take it in the ass?"

Yep. I can see that going over, really well with a lot of people, around here.

One familiar meme that comes to mind is: "It's not the government's business what goes on between a woman and her doctor"

Where are those voices, now?

No one is actually arguing that. It's that the questions are mandatory, else caregivers are going to face penalties. That is, they are being forced to ask. Now, if it's important for the Dr. to know according to the issue treated, the Dr. will ask. No one is arguing against a Dr. asking that. And, that will (and should) go into the patient's file.

Could we have some credible citation, about what questions are manditory under this law, rather than some Jeff Bezos enterprise?

This is the million man muslim march sort of crap that was going around last nutsucker cycle last week.

And it is not the governments business now, other than in hysterical nutsucker land.

Penalties? Yep I agree that's over the line.

I was trying to chew gum and read at the same time when I read that.

FR,

Since I started using the VA in 2005, VA healthcare providers have been required to ask me all sorts of unrelated questions and offer me all sorts of unneeded and unwanted services.

We give these the attention they deserve.

I thought it was taking it in the ass, not sucking nuts.

one is a medical question, and one is a political outlook.

Errm... I suspect that most of them would be just as inclined to take issue with intrusive questions as you are.

That really is getting crazy. Go to school for a zillion years to make sound medical decisions, and have the government make the call on your expertise? Next they will be doing surgery, with a spoon. Who will want to be a doctor?

You know the major difference between a lawyer and a doctor? The doctor doesn't think he's a lawyer.

You know the major difference between a lawyer and God? God doesn't think Himself a lawyer.
