defiantbadgirl -> Getting information published on a high profile national level? (9/17/2013 10:44:21 AM)

I recently learned some very important information that millions of people need to know. How do I go about getting the media exposure to get the word out to people? I'm not looking for fame as I'm very camera shy. I just want to get important info out to every full-time low income worker with a family in the United States.

Facebook and Youtube aren't options?

I'm a full time low income worker...what's the news?

Not everyone looks there. This is HUGE and could help the families of millions of full-time low income workers.

Short of something going viral, there is no one source where everybody is going to see the same thing. You need to start the word of mouth machine to make people go the info, wherever you post it.

Boil it down to a very compelling subject line for an email, a one line sentence body of of text, then a few bullets that back it up or give stats/info (a short enough email that can be read on an iphone, etc). Subject line is most important, and bullets. No typos and make sure it's tightly written. Then include your email address and phone number and say you are willing to to talk them "on background only." Are you able to provide them with real sources who can be quoted? If not, the story is dead. They will need someone who can go on record.

Find 5 reporters/journalists, including the one in your HOME TOWN newspaper (even though you want to go national) and email them. You can find their email addresses with some google research. Research reporters that are already writing the kind of topics that are close to what this topic is.

Your topic is going to sound like spam and/or a whacko, so seriously work on your content for a long time to get it sharp.

All of our local news stations have an email address where you can email information.

There are many low income workers and their families who can't afford medical care because their health insurance deductibles are $4000+ and yearly out of pocket max is $10,000+. They're paying for insurance they can't use. Instead of letting them get subsidized insurance on the exchange so they can afford medical care, the law makes them ineligible for subsidies so they continue paying for policies they can't use and continue being unable to afford medical care. The 9.5% affordability rule only applies to premiums and only the employer subsidized premiums of the worker are counted, not the often unsubsidized premiums of covered family members.

An IRS number I called turned out to be the government office that makes the decisions on eligibility for federal health insurance subsidies, at least according to the person I spoke with. I was told that if enough people called them and complained, they would have to look at the issue again and possibly change requirements for subsidy eligibility. I asked the person I spoke with if their committee or whatever was authorized to make such changes without Congress and was told yes, they can. So a very substantial flaw in the law can be fixed without Congress. All people have to do is call in and complain. The more people who know about this, the more complaints there will be. So this definitely needs to go viral.

Start a page on Facebook, and make a video for Youtube filled with all of the information as you can possibly provide including where to write or call. Then link the video here and I would definitely link it on my Facebook page.

FR

There are website for starting petitions and awareness campaigns. Two off the top of my head are avaaz.org and change.org. Avaaz has a community petition/campaign starter page, and if your campaign gets enough support, they will pick it up and help boost it further.

This sounds like something they would get behind, but it would have to be backed by verifiable facts.

ETA, it will be much easier to get the media to pick up the story if you have visible support through website hits, signatures, views, etc.

Got verifiable, reliable, strong, facts other than a phone call? Without it you will just look like another online kook.
