One of my favorite books as a kid was Your Rugged Constitution. Simple and clear explanations along with fabulous vintage (to me) illustrations.

I may go dig it out now. Yes, I'm a nerd.

I saw this scene from Star Trek before I actually learned about the Constitution in school. It seems kind of hammy to watch it now, but I have to admit that I was somewhat inspired by this as a kid.

I liked Schoolhouse Rock, too.

My dad and I discussed the Constitution on occasion, and he had some general history books which included the Constitution. It wasn't until later that I started to gain an appreciation for it. During my school years, I recall it was only lightly touched upon, at least until high school. One of my high school social studies classes covered the Constitution quite a bit, and it was kind of cool since the teacher was half in the bag most of the time.

I sometimes think the preamble of the Constitution would be a much better thing for schoolkids to recite than the Pledge of Allegiance.
