This could be lots of fun [:D]

House Republicans passed their stopgap funding bill Friday to keep government open while terminating the new health care law, setting up a final showdown next week with Senate Democrats and President Obama who have firmly rejected that.

The 230-189 vote, which split almost exclusively along party lines, is the precursor to the big action next week, when the Senate is expected to strip out the health care provisions and send the bill back to the House — where Republicans will have to decide whether they can accept it at that point.

All sides are racing a Sept. 30 deadline, which is when current government funding runs out. The new measure would fund the government through Dec. 15, essentially at last year’s levels, and would leave the budget sequesters in place.

I do hope they run the Senate discussions on Comedy Central. When it gets back to the House -

They aught to run the nutsuckers with peewee herman.

There will be not much of nothing said, approve, strip out the nutsuckerisms and send it back.

Phydeaux -> RE: Get out the popcorn (9/20/2013 12:57:52 PM)

Bad ideas for the republicans.

They should split the bills out. And pass social security. Pass defense. Once we guarantee that social security checks are going out.. then lets fight about obamacare, and lets see if the dims want to have *that* fight.

mnottertail -> RE: Get out the popcorn (9/20/2013 1:04:45 PM)

There is no fight, nutsuckers send a dogshit repeal bill up to the senate and they wipe their ass with it.

So the Senate can ignore it? Nope. The House has passed a bill to prevent the "shutdown." Let the popcorn start popping.

tweakabelle -> RE: Get out the popcorn (9/20/2013 11:10:20 PM)

The Republicans have made it perfectly clear that their intention is to shut down Obamacare, not "prevent the "shutdown." In doing so, they risk not only a shutdown, but also plunging the US and world economies into recession or worse. This from the party that fetishises "personal responsibility" no less.

How such irresponsible brinkmanship is an occasion that calls for popcorn is beyond me.

Mmmm. Buttery sprinkles.

Because to us, it's just like watching pro-wrestling. It's so absurd it's almost comical.

Perhaps not, but popcorn and pro-wrestling do go well together. [:)]

An that really shows your level of understanding in all of this. You really do not understand what this all means. I could spell it out, but were would the fun be in that? Your going to watch the President out flank and out smart Republicans....AGAIN. He does have a solid track record for doing just that. If I was a betting man, I would place it on the President coming out on top in the end.

That said, have any of you actually sat down and read the bill from cover to cover that your so against? Or have you allowed others to do your thinking for you and you just mindlessly babbling everything they said? Because who is to say that in two years you come down with a very serious medical problem. A problem that might have work if the ACA was still active and on the books. At that point you think you have might medical bills? It'll be nothing to what happens in two years. An when those in the medical field find out that you were against the bill due to ignorance of the bill; you'll find they are surprisingly to busy to treat you. Those bills will pile up quickly and push you straight into bankruptcy. And THEN the medical industry will have you by the crotch! And you'll enter a new level of 'screwed'.

Best you give it some serious thought before so easily supporting the Republicans. They will to tear down this nation.

LIVE FROM NEW YORK IT'S SATURDAY NIGHT !

well, if the Senate and the Congress had to answer to the veto power of a combined Tina Fey/Bill Murray "Chief Executive" ticket, it'd be a better Saturday Night than most. If politics are a "show", and so many things are designed for media consumption to change the memes thus change the Public Will, who better to hire to lead in such matters than...

SHOWRUNNERS?*

*as in the industry term used in Hollywood for people who concieve of multi writer and multi directo and multi-funding stream and match-grant projects for TV and beyond. Hm...... sounds not very different to congressmen and reps, eh?

What a completely ridiculous response. It may be a good thing for you if the Dems succeed because you obviously need an immediate humor recognition transplant.

You are correct of course but because this is America so the debate isn't about healthcare or the ACA call it what you want...it is about money, as always. This bill is not reform any more than when the repubs themselves offered just this kind of bill back in '94 I think it was...to oppose Hillary Care.

No worries. The rest of us are clawing back from the last one you dumped us in precisely by not depending any more on the US, financially or industrially. This will be just one more step on the US's road to global irrelevance.

You outsourced your industries, you outsourced your R&D, you're working on outsourcing your financial sector, and the NSA is working hard to motivate the rest of us to take over and decentralise the Net. You can settle down to a quiet retirement as the agricultural and sweatshop-economy banana republic your leaders have been working towards for so long.
