Disgusting [:'(] practice.

There are many things House Republicans liked about the government continuing resolution. It defunds Obamacare, locks in the sequester spending cuts and keeps the government running.

But there’s one provision tucked into the CR that may anger constituents back home: Among the various sections of the House-passed CR are 28 words that would pay $174,000 to the widow of the late Sen. Frank R. Lautenberg, D-N.J.

“Sec. 134. Notwithstanding any other provision of this joint resolution, there is appropriated for payment to Bonnie Englebardt Lautenberg, widow of Frank R. Lautenberg, late a Senator from New Jersey, $174,000.”

The death gratuity — a long-practiced, little-known, unofficial perk of office — has been a staple of congressional deaths.

Before Lautenberg’s death, he was No. 8 on Roll Call’s 50 Richest Members of Congress with a net worth of at least $56.8 million.

“Congress just voted to cut food stamps for poor children,” Schuman says, referring to the nutrition bill passed in the House on Thursday. “The self-serving attitude that the death gratuity embodies places members of Congress above the public they are elected to serve. The last place this giveaway belongs is in legislation intended to contain only the essential measures to keep the government open.”

And they wonder why Congress's popularity is so low. [8|]

And it was for Democratic (New Jersey) Senator Lautenberg's widow. That's hysterical. [sm=rofl.gif]

This is only the tip of the tip of the icberg (yes I said tip of the tip) gratuities like this are not limited to death benefits.

And here is another disgusting practice.

SNAP has grown by 440% in this last 12 years - from $17 million a year to $75 million a year. The program has been expanded to include any dumbass 20-nothing sitting on mommy's basement couch playing x-Box who knows enough to go down to the county building and self-declare himself as homeless (which can be interpreted as meeting the legal definition, as it's modified by the administration). States have been allowed to rewrite and even waive eligibility requirements and standards. Restaraunts have little signs saying, "use your EBT card here."

The bill passed in the House is cutting about 5%. Not one penny of these cuts needs to go anywhere near the people this program was originally intended to help.

Yet claiming that Republicans want kids to starve passes for a reasonable, unremarkable, statement in the gutter of politics the Democrats live in.

edit for 1% correction in math

Well they want that benefit themselves and yes, even if the estate they leave...is over $50 million.

Well you might have a case if you were right but you are incorrect ? They would quickly discover (ID purposes) that he is in fact living with mom which means they include mom's and/or dad's income. So no food stamps.

Yes, the capitalist (restaurateurs) is very clever to have lobbied for a food stamp program that provides them a profit. I think one can even get Huggies with yep...food stamps. How can western civilization survive such fraud ?

No, I'm not. There is no discovery or even a moment of investigation. An address on an ID card can be stated to be a mailing address only. You need to check out the 2012 revisions to the standards of homelessness, and the guidelines for self-declarations.

And this appears to be what plays out across the nation, wages that will not support living. It is a form of corporate welfare.
