I am not a rabid advocate against marijuana becoming legal.
I do think that in impassioned beliefs, that some very important details get brushed aside.
And they shouldn't be.

I could care less if they legalize pot, personally I see it as no more hazardous than alcohol.

What I want made legal is the right to own a fully working tank and ammo. Have you seen the idiots on the road? I want to be able to defend myself.

If I'm not mistaken, you actually can own and drive an armored (albeit unarmed) vehicle in the U.K. Seems like I saw a video somewhere of a guy that drives a light tank around London that's painted yellow. Whether or not he does it under the influence of pot was not discussed.

Your problem is you're confusing "pot" with "operating a train while smoking pot". One of them is potentially dangerous and should be banned or heavily regulated. The other is the topic of this thread. Thanks for your attention!

I don't personally use, but absolutely believe it should be legal and am an advocate for legalizing. Its far safer than any other recreational drug out there, and the medicinal benefits are staggering. The war in drugs is big business. Marijuana possesion is a large contributor to victimless crimes, which I'm not a fan of. If you haven't seen this, its an excellent documentary.

Pot, alcohol, cell phones, laptops, 'pads' and a host of other things need to be illegal, In Operated Cars. What keeps being lost in the discussion in the remarkably punitive American Culture is the costs of enforcement usually are less palatable than the problem it 'solves'. Prohibition is widely seen as an abject failure. It's dysfunction was minor compared to the massive social damage the War on Drugs has caused. When perspective goes out the window, problems simply multiply, nothing gets better. Europe has roughly 1/10 the addiction rate and drug problem as the US due to a policy of Damage Limitation. A simple social engineering analysis is done as opposed to the continual rebirth of morality based punishment seen here.
Recent studies indicate tetrahydrocannabinol damage to growing Central Nervous Systems (Pre-teen/adolescent) is far greater than advocates like to acknowledge. Convincing juveniles of this probably is a Sisyphean Task. Pot can't do as much damage as incarceration in the US penal system!

He could have just as easily been drunk or under the influence of any other drug, even some prescribed to him and legal. Even if it was a legally prescribed drug that caused drowsiness, it would still be illegal to be the operator of a train, airplane, bulldozer, and i would even say a regular car.

One of the things he doesn't mention in the article is so-called "contact high." Personally, I have a very strong reaction to pot smoke in general vicinity: fuzzy thinking, splitting headaches, etc. While I support legalizing things in theory, if smoking pot becomes as legal as, say, smoking cigarettes, I'd have to leave the house in a gas mask. [sm=couch.gif] The other drugs don't have the same effect on passers-by: if a guy standing next to me in line is drinking from his flask, or snorting some coke, or doing meth, it does not affect me. Secondhand smoke from cigarettes can be harmful, but if I accidentally inhale some, it won't mess me up for the next few days, the way pot smoke would...

That's because it's a myth.
It's also because he understands that legalizing something doesn't legalize blowing it in other people's faces, or smoking in their house against their permission, even if you COULD get high from smelling the smoke.

Not only are you an asshole if you still think pot should be illegal, but you have NO respect for principles of individual liberty that made this nation strong and no clue as to what prohibition does to breed corruption, create organized crime, and destroy families, careers, reputations, and innovations. The very idea of destroying people to keep them from destroying themselves is insane.

THIS! People get over 'recreational drugs. They don't get over what the 'Justice System' does to them.
To date, The War on Drugs has made America the most imprisoned society on the planet, possibly ever; corrupted every level of government in the Western Hemisphere if not the planet; and made pot cost more than gold. Heroin prices continue to decline and the actually dangerous coke, ice and the new designer drugs are cheap and available in every school, bar and neighborhood in the nation. There may be More drugs cheaper in the prisons housing all those being taught drugs are a bad idea.
