Surely, pushing a child into an adult-style sexually-fantasised world is just not age appropriate??
I see no benefits whatsoever to the child - it's all glory for the parents and organisers.
And for the most part, TV and magazine/catalogue pundits don't choose their protoges from pageants.

I think like you. A child should be a child and when it comes to judging beauty, there should be no such thing until that child is a consenting adult who makes her own choices to tread that path.

I believe that creating vanity at such a tender age can only lead to a conditioned mind and a lonely road.

If you removed the "adult style sexually fantasized world" part then you would just have a pageant. It strikes me that rather than banning them altogether, the government could simply ban anything sexual or adult in content. It must be possible to have a pageant without all that stuff.

My original position remains unchanged. That is not for you, or the government, to decide for parents everywhere.

Does a parent have the right to make her child sensitive about her physical appearance? Being deemed the prettiest truly should not matter to a child!
We have laws in place to protect children, sometimes from their parents or guardians. Sometimes choice should not be an option.
