Politesub53 -> Is Cruz for real ? (9/25/2013 4:43:28 PM)

What an arsehole Cruz is, he actually compared the fight against Obamacare with the fight against the Nazis and the Baatan Death March. Oddly enough he is trying to talk out a bill he is actually in favour with, in the attempt to defund Obamacare.

Filibusters are slightly different in the UK as speakers have to stay germane to the topic and not constantly repeat themselves. They certainly cant start spouting nonsense about Green Eggs and Ham.

I absolutely *adore* the british house of commons.

There debate skills are honed by constant practice - and it is amazing to watch.

Whereas here, you have two monolithic blocks, talking past each other.

Besides, it was probably the clearest and sanest part of Cruz's oration.

Crap..... it was lousy

He was great. I'd like to see him run for President. I like his passion and focus. I also enjoyed his side trips into a little Dr. Seuss for his girls who were watching. He achieved what he set out to do, make headlines, make noise and get us talking about him and obamascare.

P.S. thanks for asking.

Arturas -> RE: Is Cruz for real ? (9/25/2013 7:30:54 PM)

Anyone think he just up and did this without working a plan? Good. Keep thinking that.

Lucylastic -> RE: Is Cruz for real ? (9/25/2013 7:31:44 PM)

passion?? Ive seen more passion in a day old pile of vomit

Hillwilliam -> RE: Is Cruz for real ? (9/25/2013 7:59:32 PM)

Does anyone else see Cruz quoting Green eggs and ham as the country nears a shutdown as a modern day Nero fiddling while Rome burns?

Lucylastic -> RE: Is Cruz for real ? (9/25/2013 8:23:16 PM)

considering they have only just started to care about people losing jobs(apparently only the ones affected by the aca) in the last 36 hours, I cant tell you how it makes me feel.
threatening to shut the country down, and going ahead with cutting six million people off SNAP doesnt seem to phase them as to what it means for the people who will have nowhere to turn. And heaven knows job creation has been missing thru out the lasts 3 years.
they are a fucking disgrace.

And more of an intellect. if ever there was a man screaming "Look at me, I wanna be President" then this was it.

The odd thing about it is he doesnt want a shut down, he was just pandering to the masses who are somehow anti-Obamacare and pro insurance companies ripping off the public.

The frightening thing is, his background makes it very clear the guy is not as stupid as he seems.

He graduated Princeton cum laude while also being named the best debater in the country. He then graduated Harvard Law magna cum laude while also being an editor of the Harvard law Review and cofounding the Harvard Latino Law Review. He then clerked for Chief Justice Rehnquist. He had a quite successful and long run as the Solicitor General of Texas. In private practice he argued appellate and Supreme Court cases and by all accounts was very effective.

Do not underestimate this guy. He may appear and act dumber than W but the guy isn't. I think his getting in bed with the tea party morons, and pretending to be so stupid, is simply a means to an end. He intends to be President and I doubt anyone but him has any idea what he'd do once he got there.

mnottertail -> RE: Is Cruz for real ? (9/26/2013 6:37:44 AM)

Yeah, and he voted for the procedural vote that he was slobbering against. Damn poor theatre.

Phydeaux -> RE: Is Cruz for real ? (9/26/2013 12:34:55 PM)

Ahhh shucks.. I'd prefer you (generic) keep thinking he's an idiot. Barring events I know I'm voting for him - no republican I'd rather more, nor democrat.
Course, the only problem is he's from texas. Different state would be better. Pennsylvania or such.

Voting for it gives you the opportunity to ask for a recount at a later date. Hedge your bets if the vote is close.

Lucylastic -> RE: Is Cruz for real ? (9/26/2013 12:38:29 PM)

perfectly understandable Phydeaux

Nope. That is the most ludicrous shite ever uttered internet wise.

THere is no fucking recount.

He can ask for a vote (yeas and nays) on the question under consideration, that is all. it has to be sustained by 11 senators (one fifth the quorum) he cannot ask for a count once the bill has passed consideration, it must be immediate. But he can never ever ask for a re-polling of that count or any past count, if it was entered in the journal by a request for recording (11 senators again) then it is in the record, if it is asked to be called by voice (from the old, then without objection the measure is passed). . .

there is no recount. And his being in or out of any prior votes or talking about green eggs or ham is inconsequential to the senate rules for voting.

So you support a guy who is intentionally acting dumb and lying with every statement he makes? WTF.

Wrong again Ron. Look up a motion to reconsider.
Byrd, who was a master tactician, used it on two occasions to great effect in the US senate.

a motion to reconsider is not a recount it is a literal revote. However the motion to reconsider on the CR was already made and tabled as is standard practice on all bills now.
