My daughter showed horses competitively for over 12 years. I've seen the same damn behavior at horse shows. Especially from the women who rode themselves.

Me? I kept asking her if she wouldn't like to just go on a nice trail ride instead.

However, I've also known judges who don't award based on the riding ability, but on how good looking the kid is. One of the top youth all around western riders when asked what the difference between champion and reserve was, answered "ten pounds". Because the thinner the girl, the higher she placed.

I don't watch the shows pertaining to subjecting children to their parents rants and so on. Though I get TLC, I have never watch Tiaras and Tots, HoneyBoo, that one show about Dancing kids.

That being said...my eldest niece did participate in a pageant when she was 2. She was well behaved, did not have to copy any adult behavior and she won. She was also the only blonde competing (this was in Hawai'i, where she was born at). The trophy was taller than her. Now she lives in Virginia, doing government work. Her dad (my brother) was a career Army soldier and he is an independent contractor with companies that get government contacts to work overseas. My other brother is a Post Master in a village not far from here. We all agree...NO HONEYBOBO!!!!

What are the Dads' responsibilities in where the culture is today?

In my mind, any father who would allow his daughter to be sexualized either in dress or in some other way (like participating in pageants) has abdicated his responsibilities as a parent and should be horse whipped as well.

No doubt these dads are busy working 60 hour weeks so they can support the pageant lifestyle.

In my original post, I nominated mothers for the whipping since it's mostly mothers who become the pageant parents.

A strong father figure is very important to a child's development. But how many kids get *that* these days?

The fathers are probably living out their fantasies by pushing their boys to play sports whether they want to or not. I've seen enough of those types also.
