ORIGINAL: Yachtie Not all scientists are panicking about global warming — one of them finds the alarmism “hilarious.” A top climate scientist from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology lambasted a new report by the UN’s climate bureaucracy that blamed mankind as the main cause of global warming and whitewashed the fact that there has been a hiatus in warming for the last 15 years. “I think that the latest IPCC report has truly sunk to level of hilarious incoherence,” Dr. Richard Lindzen told Climate Depot, a global warming skeptic news site. “They are proclaiming increased confidence in their models as the discrepancies between their models and observations increase.” Hysterical it is. What's even funnier will be the credentialists denying the credentials of a top climatologist at M.I.T. in favor of consensus based science. Saddle up and let the hilarity begin Breaking news! A scientist disagrees with other scientists! Hold the front page! This is why it's impossible to discuss science with people who think politically. They can't understand a community where disagreement and debate are the norm, the way truth is arrived at. There are scientists out there who disagree with quantum mechanics, despite it being the foundation of microelectronics; who disagree with the germ theory of disease; who disagree with the theory of gravity. That's the way science advances, by always having questioners to keep testing the existing theories. 99.999% of the time, the questioners are proved wrong, and in the process the existing theory is strengthened. Just now and then, the questioners are proved right... like the ones who, 50 years ago, questioned the theory that the world's climate was far too massive to be affected by human activity. When they've been proved right often enough, their crank theory becomes the existing consensus. But there will always be dissenters, because that's how science works. And there will always be laypeople who imagine that because they can find a scientist who disagrees, the consensus must be wrong.
