There are a massive range, as a pro Domme is taken to mean anyone who charges for sessions, rather than anyone who makes their primary income from their work.

I take on a very small number of subs, as for me it's a way to fund my BDSM "hobby" and not the way I make my living. The hourly rate might seem steep, but so is the cost of good fetish equipment and clothing. I've spent far more than I've earned, but as I say I take on a very limited number of sub clients and spend a lot of time busy with my lifestyle slaves/subs/events.

For more full-time professionals, some definitely make a good living but will often be operating out of chambers with thousands upon thousands of pounds worth of equipment, so the hourly rate a sub pays certainly doesn't translate directly to profit.

Hmmmm.... male doms don't get paid anything. Yet they still are able to do their "hobby."

I work with a lady who is only a pro domme and she makes well over 5000 a month
She pays her house mortgage, cars, and the house her dungeon is located.
Where you live plays a huge factor in anything you do.

Which after taxes would be $3500.00 (figuring 30% for self employed) which equals $42,000 a year. Not exceptional.

Smiles ... for some people ... that is GOOD money! [;)]

Yet OsideGirl, your point is well taken. [:)]

Because there are people on the boards, as well as some who used to participate, for whom ... well, lets just say 3500 is less than a weeks pay.

And they are NOT Pro Dommes. [:D]

That said, there are a few Notable Pro Dommes, two whom I could mention, and they did quite well in their day. But, they were two, among thousands; and they maintained High profiles in the community while active.

So I think, when someone has to ask this question, they need to understand, they start out at the bottom of the pay scale ...

And have to scale a mountain to make a lot of money.

Geez, sounds like many occupations. No? [;)]

Why in the world would she claim that on taxes? [8D]

I would venture a guess that if she's paying a mortgage and car notes, they have to report their earnings to the IRS and from there on, they would use that to see how she's paying for it all. Audits are a bitch when you work for cash. At the least, she should file under a 1099, because you don't have to validate precisely what you did for it, just as long as Uncle Sugar gets his slice of the pie. While it's not quite the same, I have some friends who are independent contractors (construction and the other trades) who've gotten into serious trouble because of the way they handled their income.

Just to add a dumb joke, because I can't stop thinking about it, but every time I see the title of this thread, I think "Enough to brake the ice"
Like that dumb "How much does a polar bear weigh" pick up line.
I don't know why, but hopefully now that I've shared that I can move on.

I was confused by this comment. Is it that you are not aware that there are male professional Dominants as well, or you are confused by the difference in what it takes as far as equipment, gear, rental space, etc that a professional has to have vrs what a person can "get by" with when they are just playing for fun? Unlike the person playing at home, the professional Dominant needs to be able to create a certain atmosphere for clients, which includes a certain look for themselves (wardrobe) as well as for the space where the play will occur. They also have higher costs because they are playing more often and there is an incurred cost for disposable or single person use items, where the person playing at home (usually) has fewer play partners than the professional has clients.

I'm not a professional Dominant. As a lifestyle person who has a rather extensive toy collection and a good amount of BDSM related equipment, I'm not exaggerating when I say I've easily spent ten grand on the items that are in the dungeon downstairs. However, I've had a number of years to accumulate that collection. I didn't have to lay that out all at once in order to get and maintain clients like a professional would.

~~~~~~~
To the OP. How much a professional is going to make is going to depend upon a number of factors. Time spent actually doing sessions is the most obvious. How skilled they are and the variety of those skills is another. I believe location was mentioned by somebody on the thread, which I've seen is definitely the case. Cost is definitely a factor when you look at what they are really making as far as rental space, exposure (or lack thereof) in the kink or leather communities, and various other areas.
On a personal note, I've been wondering a bit if you've created these threads specifically about pro Dommes in hope that a professional in the UK will see them and pitch themselves so that you will become their client. Most of the pros that I know (the good ones, anyway) don't operate like that. The onus is on you, as the client, to do the research to find the professional that is going work best with your particular desires for sessions.
As I mentioned on the other thread, we do have posters who are/were pros in the UK. From the things they have related on the boards here, it always seemed that there are a good number of professionals that can be found in the London scene. (I remember one poster that specifically commented on business cards being handed out at certain clubs.) I'm sure that with some time invested, you could find a good fit.
Contentious I know .. - but can't help being curious..
The "persona" of a Dominatrix is of the epitome of female sexual power - and a person who is superior - in every way to poor "weak-willed" and "inferior men" ....
Someone who is truly master -- oops Mistress of her own destiny - ( of of other peoples ) - and "successful" in every way ...
Someone to whom "weak-willed and inferior men" will glady pay £130- per hour for the privilege of being pissed on - and worse...
Someone who enjoys a jet-set materialistic life, funded by "pay-pigs" and "human ATM's" ...
But what is the reality... ?
How many sessions can a Pro-Domme physically - and psychologically endure, week in, week out, month in, month out ..... year in... year out ..
Is it actually, that good a living .... ?
Or is it, at best, scratching a modest, sordid - and insecure existence..- with no holiday pay... no sick pay.. and no pension scheme ...
I await your insights... and comments with interest... :-)
I pay mine on a sliding scale.
I also give green stamps as an incentive.
There are pro male dominants, but I suspect they have a hard time (haven't known any personally). Some of them I have seen advertise cater mostly to men, and from what I know it is hard to get female clients, in part because I suspect women have an easier time finding a male dom to play with without needing to go to a pro, whereas as male has a much harder time finding a domme IRL (plus my other guess is women simply are a lot less inclined to pay for an experience.....though most dommes I have known have female clients, but they are not that common).
David92506 -> Los Angeles Pro-Dommes (11/5/2013 9:16:35 AM)
I've seen 4 different Pro-Dommes that work in Los Angeles out of their homes. I've never been to a Pro-Domme working out of a commercial space. The Pro-Dommes I've seen charge $250, $200, $275 and $250, respectively. I found them on backpage.com. They were all very good at what they did and the equipment they had was limited. I'm a curious individual and I always ask them questions. Why don't you do this full-time? To summarize their answers: There aren't enough clients to make a go of it. It's a very demanding job and it takes a lot out of them so they don't think they could do it full-time. There are too many flakes out there; they schedule an appointment and then don't show up. Or they show up but they don't have the total amount of money and are asking if they could get a discount.
There are Pro-Dommes that charge $300 per hour and up but I've never been to one of them. I always wondered if they do better than the one's I've seen.
