As I've tried to explain in the political blogs where I have participated, my family has been old-line conservative republicans from Mich. My father was distraught over Kennedy beating Nixon in '60 but (even when all of his friends were overjoyed) I never said as much directly...my mother even worked for Geo. Romney in his bid to become pres.

Nixon came later as we all know and with him, a young journalist who also came to Wash., was created and prospered. His name was George Will. Soon he was writing for the Post-Newsweek syndicate. He was one real conservative (and the only reason I watched 'This Week' on ABC) who even when necessary would castigate many repubs for violating those principles.

Now he has sold out. he's leaving ABC and going to Fox. I am sure it was a very, very, very, enriching deal. That is after all...the new American culture...greed. (see Juan Williams, $2 million/yr) BUT, I wonder how long it will last when Fox tries to script even Wills comments ? It is my position they had better not try. My first guess is that he will stay away from the word socialism because he knows the actual definition of the word while Fox and its minions obviously...do not. Maybe George will make more being a vendor of Fox's oh so sweet kool aid. I hope not even though I have Fox on for racing and football...ONLY !! Here

I think Fox is looking to boost their credibility.

I was wondering why I tend to agree with most of your posts...similar histories.

But, it's George Will who's making the move. He's not required to go. Given the vehemence against FN here and assuming correctness of such for argument's sake, George has either been corrupted or see's this as a positive move. If it's a positive move, what does that say about FN?

Will has been intellectually irrelevant since about 1995 who gives a shit if he moves onto the couch besides that blond dimwit? It's always faintly possible that ABC will find an intellectually challenging conservative to replace him.

Redundant usage there, Dom. Will could most charitably be described as an Old School conservative, as if that was a good thing.

How funny.

You meant oxymoronic. You said redundant. All the while castigating the intelligence of conservatives. How droll.
We know it *can't * be redundant you meant since there are no words or phrases there that actually mean the same thing....

That's what a good conservative does: he enriches himself and tells the public the arrangement benefits everyone.

Why is it "selling out"? It's not as if ABC is some underground newspaper.

Hush. I'll go with redundant for 200, Alex.

Think about it. I'd completely agree with you if the "ing" had been "ed." But, alas, it was not. As it was written, however, to that, I do, agree.

Was away for awhile but I thought of all people Will wouldn't because he didn't need and wouldn't take the money. If they script his commentary, he will leave.

If for the most part, Will sticks to his roots, it is a move up.

Well my experience has been that Will was the one conservative that would take to task others on the right for their corruption of the ideology.

It is a good thing but so few understand it, they want to paint him as a radical. My only problem with Will is the substituting liberal dependencies for what are really capitalist dependencies. I believe Reagan tried to be conservative but it got him shot.

Well I truly do understand that perspective but Will even took Reagan And the Bushes to task for their policies and wants the right to stop their worship of RR.

Well I don't really know how much more Fox might or might not be paying him. But too many go there for huge raises and some change their tune once there. Juan Williams one the most egregious. He got several times what he made at PBS. Now he comes around to the 'right' way of thinking.

Yea, I'll go with this. Conservatives can be challenging but too few are of Will's intellectual standing. Some even charge him with semantic exhibitionism. Like I've written, Will was one of the very few to take the right to task for its mistakes and too often its appeal to emotions and otherwise ideological corruption.
