I know what they are, but how do they feel? My master is worried I'm gonna die from suffication so I would like to know about hoods. Like what are the more comfortable kinds? And, what are good types for beginners use? Also does a rubber hood hurt if you have kinda lengthy hair? I'd also like to know about leather hoods, do they smell bad after a long time wearing them? Any information would great, and thank you for your time.

Many hoods are capable of interfering with breathing. Those with total enclosure (usually a front zipper to breathe through) or only grommet holes at the nostrils but no opening for eyes or mouth are safe unless you get stuffed up and can't breathe easily through your nose. Also risky are the hoods that involve a tube for breathing (search the web to learn about the sad fate of Adrian Exley). The obvious precaution to take is never wear these types of hoods while alone. Even if you are able to remove it yourself, plan for the possibility of losing consciousness and needing to breathe until you revive without a partner to see your dilemma and rescue you. I'd feel safe in an open-mouthed hood by myself for extended periods but, again, the sane way to play with any unattended bondage is to have the means to escape by yourself.

The aroma is part of the wonderful sensuality of leather hoods. A lot of the moisture that evaporates from your body can pass through the leather, so they can be comfortable for long periods of time unless you are in a particularly hot environment. Rubber does not breathe at all of course but is thinner; body heat can radiate away more easily than in leather, so rubber hoods can be comfortable for long periods also. A certain amount of clamminess, however, cannot be escaped. Long hair means more care in putting on and removing them but is not cause enough to avoid rubber hoods.

Acceptable rubber hoods can be very affordable. Unfortunately, the type of leather (or "leather look") hood that can be had on eBay and other websites for less than $50 is essentially rubbish due to poor fit and cheap materials. They are not worth even trying. Passable leather hoods are at least $150 and nice leather hoods that you will like and be able to use for years to come are usually in the range of $300 or more. Mr S Leather, JT's Stockroom and Extreme Restraints are good online sources.

i don't wear them but I have a submissive who does. she even sleeps in them. Hers were made custom by Latex Nemesis. She has no problems with her hair getting in the way as most hoods have a flange inside the zipper that protects the hair. In the morning she rinses out the hood and lets it hang to dry which usually takes a day.

Tolerance varies from person to person. There are more open hoods such as a 'gord' hood, or open eyes and mouth such as what fetishkitsch wears. There's a lot of variety along the spectrum between open and restrictive.
