TheHeretic -> A little info on healthcare providers for the poor (10/3/2013 6:20:55 PM)

A local story, on a local agency, but here is a peek at how healthcare for the needy is administered in Los Angeles.

CBS local story on LACare, and how they like to party... And they are running $20 million in the hole.

For anyone who will be getting their services through a new exchange, I'd really do some homework on where you go. Assuming you have much choice at all, that is.

DomKen -> RE: A little info on healthcare providers for the poor (10/3/2013 6:27:14 PM)

The new exchanges, for those who are too poorly informed to know, are selling traditional health insurance from existing health insurance providers. The exchanges guarantee certain levels of services and facilitate getting the tax break to help subsidize the premiums.

graceadieu -> RE: A little info on healthcare providers for the poor (10/3/2013 6:28:55 PM)

Yep, you better watch out - BlueCross BlueShield, Aetna, UnitedHealth - those are some shady companies! [:D]

Reponding without even looking at the news report I see.

Owner59 -> RE: A little info on healthcare providers for the poor (10/3/2013 6:44:22 PM)

In Florida, the jerk-off republicans there are refusing to let ACA navigators use state health office to help folks through it......Quick.....blame the President.....[X(]

TreasureKY -> RE: A little info on healthcare providers for the poor (10/3/2013 7:08:18 PM)

Sheesh.

I'm not surprised, though. Too many enjoy the Government's deep pockets.

Always good advice. In this case it's a non-profit and there's been plenty of recent cases of mismanagement and executive largess in that domain. I wonder if there is any choice though? Then again, A choice is better than no choice.

A face book friend of mind(who is a con) said he was paying 14 hundred a month to cover his family. He just signed up with a new plan that gives him the same coverage for a bit more than $800 a month.

He`s planning on buying a new car.

A win for him, awin for the growing economy(save the gop suicide bombers) and a win for the ACA......

And a loss for the losers.[;)]

The article has nothing to do with policies or costs of healthcare. Had either of you bothered to actually read it, you would see that it (and the OP) was about the agency tasked with running the exchange and abuses and mismanagement of government funds.

Im thankful your friend has found an affordable option... I've had 2 friends tell me they passed, that the program was much higher for their families. I just hope for their sake they can keep existing policies.

An yet, those deep pockets keep the economy going during recessions or boom times. Many people have jobs, thanks to the US Government spending money. Most of them do not realize it. An its ironically amusing to hear a conservative state spending should be cut, only to learn later (after he's laid off) that when the spending stopped, so did the funds going to his company. Have you ever stopped and consider just how many US Jobs are funded directly and indirectly by the US Government?

There are three basic groups that get money directly or indirectly from Government Spending. The first is the private sector. They get the largest share and the types of needs to be fulfilled is just staggering. The second group are government jobs. This is the least of the three groups to get money for a whole host of different reasons (including privatization). The third, are the 'downstream' jobs. The first two groups have to pay bills, buy stuff and even acquire resources to do their day job. Where do you think they get all this stuff from? Thin air?

There are many that like government jobs. It puts food on the table, cloths on the back, and a reason to strive for the American Dream. And its a fairly stable job, unlike the private sector. The pay sucks but usually the benefits are pretty good. Some jobs are more glamorous than others. Like being an FBI Agent verse an accountant handling IRS refunds. There are reasons people enjoy the government's deep pockets. And it has nothing to do with the warped conspiracies/fantasies of conservatives or libertarians.

Actually you are very wrong. There are many things that people may not say as they please. Hijacking a topic is one that comes to mind, but thread drift and banter are allowed.

Thanks for being a part of CollarMe,

Looking at the board of governors, this isn't all that surprising. LA needs to clean house.

cloudboy -> RE: A little info on healthcare providers for the poor (10/4/2013 3:02:16 PM)

Classic Heretic material: one anectdote to infer some larger point.

Your headline is misleading, and it should read:

One health care agency, LA Care, more interested in private profits, lavish parties, and executive compensation than public service.

It was funny to read that Dan Issa is upset about the firm wanting to make profits.

TheHeretic -> RE: A little info on healthcare providers for the poor (10/4/2013 11:06:00 PM)

Believe me, Cloudboy, there are a lot of other anecdotes about LACare I would love to relate.

A quick explanation of just what LACare is, for those who aren't familiar, and the libbies might just decide they want a piece of this action after all.

LACare is a privatization of California's version of Medicaid (known as MediCal). People between the ages of 18 and 65, with a few exceptions for specific serious medical conditions, are no longer eligible to receive those services, courtesy of reforms enacted by Governor Moonbeam (act II).

Instead, they can sign up for this heavily subsidized private provider. Pay more, get less, but they have cool cookies.

I'm trying to understand what you find funny about Issa being concerned with a private company living high on the hog off taxpayer funding though.

And I did get a chance to explore just a bit on the CA website today. It crashes my surfing 'puter here at the house, but I had a little time on my lunch break. I get more program detail in a single 4 sided sheet from work than I could find on that whole site. The really crap plans look cheaper, the good stuff more expensive, and in the middle tier, not much different at all. Like the mailer I got today from the satellite TV company, I want to know what it is going to cost the second year.

Owner59 -> RE: A little info on healthcare providers for the poor (10/5/2013 12:29:23 AM)

There hasn`t been one credible critism or comment on the ACA by the rightists.

That`s the reason for all the bullshit and false arguments.

You`re not going to find a fair analysis of the ACA from cons....Their not allowed to think that far into it.

So we get this instead......Really weird, really gross, really dumb bullshit
