Anatolium -> Shipwrecked, a guy, a gal, a deserted island & a palm tree (kinky?) (10/4/2013 4:39:32 AM)

All through my childhood I saw cartoons of the couple shipwrecked on a deserted island with nary a soul around, and, what I ALWAYS thought of was how I was going to 'get' the girl.

Now, much later in life, I realize, belatedly, they are all (in humor) D/s cartoons.
The woman, it is presumed, is helpless.
Perhaps not bound by ties, but, bound by the bounds of the small boundary of the island.

So, to me, these are, in a sneaky way, overt male domination cartoons.
Or are they?

What do you think would happen, were any of those cartoons to be reality (which is, after all, what fantasy is all about)?

Here are some random samples found by googling "cartoons deserted island":

Why would the woman be any more bound than the man? The ones you have attached are rather misogynistic from my point of view (anti-mother in law, the "bearded lady") or they are of the "stupid man" ilk. Either way, I don't see where you got that the woman was bound, particularly how she is more bound than he.

I think you can see either him or her as being bound, depending on your persuasion. You can see that she needs him and also that he needs her. In traditional terms, she needs him to gether food, he needs her to cook it, he needs her for sex - in reality, either one could do any of that for themselves, except for sex, which they need each other for. So I think you are going to see it colored with your own preferences.

Unless he's some great fisherman, they're both going to be too busy trying not to starve to be thinking about power dynamics.

Of all the cartoons I saw as a kid that meme is the least BDSM of them all, IMHO.

To me the animated saturday morning cartons had some that were much more BDSM rated than that.

On the other hand, being stranded on a deserted island Swiss Family Robinson style with a submissive woman is a rather nice fantasy. But I realize its much better as a fantasy than it would be in real life.

jeeez you guys are all practical n shit...I'd weave some "rope" outta palm leaves for some great bondage fun! Rub "coconut oil" to keep her slippery. Who cares if we ever get off the island.

I think you are reading too much into it.

I'm halfway through writing a BDSM novel on just that theme, if this thread is still alive when it's published I'll post a link.

They'll be too busy trying to find fresh water. There's a reason they're called desert islands-no readily accessible fresh water. And unless they can figure out a way to process seawater, food would be almost worthless. The average first-world person can live for about a month without food. Three days, five tops, without water and you're done.

Personally, I feel that all such cartoons are blasphemy and the only proper way to respond to them is to riot in the streets and murder a few infidels.

Here is the movie: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0073817/

Make sure you get the original not the Madonna remake.

Valid point. I just got this visual of Jeremy Wade of River Monsters catching monster fish from the beach.
