How many volts do you want? Current is the key.

A sports medicine unit uses 50-100 volts for muscle therapy.

A tesla coil, like the violet wand, generates tens of thousands of volts.

Don't even get into Van de Graaf generators.... artificial lightning anyone? Wouldn't that be a new fetish.. sexual lightning fetish?

I have a sorta related question, CAUSE MY TENS COMES IN THE MAIL SOON [:)] !
I have heard OVER AND OVER not to cross the heart. I've heard it, I won't do it, understand it will zap my heart, etc. But, my physical therapist put the electric pads on my upper back/base of my neck every session. What is different about their machines? I don't even have a real want to zap my nipples- but I wouldn't mind being able to apply it to my occasionally sore upper back?

Also, thanks for all the useful links in this thread! I was afraid I was going to have to drop 300 bucks on Juice to learn anything...

The difference is that you have a trained medical practitioner there with you in case things go squirreley.

Thats it though?

Cause she stuck those things across arteries in my neck, zapped herself by turning it on before sticking it on me, had interns (high school interns...) putting them on patients...like I'm not going to do it to myself...but I'm just surprised after my physical therapists behavior and attitude towards it that putting it on the back of your neck is considered so dangerous. Its also making me rethink my physical therapist! Fortunately- my problems are mostly L5-S1 so that's where I will use it therapeutically.

Shiftyw,
A TENS unit should come with an electrode placement chart. The charts will show you the basic placement points to alleviate pain for a particular portion of the body. You can also google "TENS electrode placement chart". The key to alleviating pain is know where the nerve is and putting the electrode across the path of the nerve to interrupt the pain signal.

You mid to upper back to your neck is not really crossing your heart path even if its on the left side of your back. Additionally your muscle tissue on you back is much thicker for most people and the heart is actually closer to your front side than your back. If you overlay an anatomy chart with a TENS electrode placement chart would see that you are not crossing the heart path with the electrode placement you described. For play simply stay from the heart and do not create a path across the heart.

Very useful! Thank You!

I would also recommend attending a kink class on electro play. If you have a local kink community munch contact them and ask. The major cities like Boston usually will have at least 1 demo a year if not more.
