ORIGINAL: Owner59 The republicans are really quite dim and ham-handed here. That may be true, but they're being upstaged big time. There is something peculiar about Park Rangers on duty stopping people from entering a national park because [wait for it] there are no Park Rangers on duty. Huh? And why do there have to be Park Rangers on duty anyway? Where is it written that Americans aren't allowed to do anything without the government there to keep an eye on them? I mean seriously. You'd almost think the Administration was trying to make the shutdown as painful as possible in the hope of stirring up animosity against the Republicans. But according to polls, most Americans were already against the shutdown, and already blaming the Republicans for it. Now they're watching a self-absorbed President sit for his portrait while people are being thrown out of their homes. Yeah, that'll piss them off at the Republicans. Apparently the latest act in this circus is denying priests access to military chapels because of the government shutdown. How to win friends and influence people, eh? The shutdown gave Obama an opportunity to be seen as a hero by doing his best to limit its impact on ordinary people. Instead, the Republicans are starting to gain sympathy for opposing him. K. The 'Lack of Reality' that you possess would alarm anyone in the mental health field almost immediately. You believe that the President is forcing people out of their homes? Are you one of those conservatives that believe a bill goes from the House to the White House before going to the Senate? There are park rangers, and they are often on duty. They do quite a number of tasks that you are not even the least aware on. Why not go and ask one of them what they do? Or would that be to intelligent and wise of an action to perform? They handle a wide range of problems from the mundane (dealing with graffiti) to major (searching for a lost child out in the wilderness). They often get very little thanks from people like you, who seem to view them as some sort of lower life form. I enjoy being around park rangers. They are often very informative on aspects of their area. Be it a historical landmark (i.e. The Liberty Bell), locations (i.e. Fort Jefferson in the Dry Tortugas), historical people (i.e. General Robert E. Lee at Gettysburg, PA), or events (i.e. the signing of the US Constitution). They are not the 'leading experts' on the subject material. But then, they are not paid to be such. To give enough information and refer them to the local library or bookstore if the person wants further information. I am willing to place money down on the table that the President was not even aware that some chapel on some military base was closed due to the shutdown. More likely the President had 'more important' things on his mind. You know, 'keeping the nation safe from all threats foreign and domestic'? If he is suppose to be aware of this tiny little thing that your railing him on; then its fair to say you argued for former President George W. Bush's impeachment on these here forums when it was learned that the military did not find any WMDs in Iraq. Oh, that's right, you didn't! You'll give a blank check to Republican/Tea Party causes while slamming the President over petty things. So some guy couldn't pray in a chapel, its the President's fault. What? Cant he just go outside and pray? or is God's power limited to only the insides of chapels? The President didn't call for this shutdown. So your 'facts' are flat out wrong. The President wasn't going to remove a major law on the books because the Republicans demanded such. What if things were reversed, Kirata? Democrats control the House, and Republican/Tea Party the Senate and White House? Democrats demand the 2nd amendment be removed as a condition of the budget battle. Would you be in favor of this course of action. If you say anything but 'yes' your a total hypocrite! The 2nd amendment, like the Affordable Care Act, are....get this....LAWS. An if Republicans are allowed to get away with it now, Democrats can do it later. And people will bring this historical event up when you complain on a future thread of the Democrats trying to 'hold the Republican/Tea Party' over a barrel on some issue.
