Part 1: Black Metal book recommendations

He already has "Lords of Chaos." He's looking for a history, not lots of pictures.

Disclaimer - he's mentally ill and is currently in a mental health facility for incidences that included patrolling the cemetery with a bat to "protect it against grave robbers." I'd feel terrible if I gave him a book from which he got the idea that burning churches was a good idea.

Part 2: Anti white supremacist books

As he's a captive audience, now might be a good time for some bibliotherapy. He's asked me for "Black Sun Cult" and "Helter Skelter." I've read the later, and the Amazon page for the former, and am not comfortable giving them to him.

His critical thinking is not good, and I'd love to overlay the trash he's seen on youtube that helped form his racial beliefs with something more positive. He can read fairly dense non-fiction.

If he's looking for a scholarly book on extreme metal, Extreme Metal: Music and Culture on the Edge by Keith Kahn-Harris is good. (And pretty readable for an academic work).

On the second, you might want to get him Führer Ex: Memoirs of a Former Neo-Nazi by Ingo Hasselbach. From the sounds of it, it might be more effective for him to read something by someone who held those views and repudiated them, rather then getting him something from an author who's always been hostile.

Perhaps they may have some thoughts on resources?

Thanks guys! I will look into those.

Last week, when looking up "Black Metal" on Amazon, I found What Are You Doing Here?: A Black Woman's Life and Liberation in Heavy Metal and have sent him that.

My man says my brother was in search of super-heroes and has latched on to super-villains instead. He recommends a book on Patton, but did not have any specific recommendations.
