BamaD -> For gun owners, what is your favorite. Not a gun control thread. (10/9/2013 11:20:25 PM)

Someone commented that gun control threads always deteriorate into "gun sociopaths" talking about their favorite firearm.
I we are accused of it we might as well do it.
I have several depending on what I am using it for.

I got one...if you wanna call it that
A working reproduction le mat

black powder, got it outta a trade fer a flatscreen

Live in a pretty shit part of town if you wanna call it that, one block around from the towns major liqueur stores, and a stones throw from half the really shitty dive bars,So I get alota belligerent drunks trapsing through my yard at odd hours of the "morning".
My lazy method of dealing with the really loud or obnoxious ones(like the one who kicked down my gate and threw a rocks at my house because he used to walk through the lot,and my landlord had added a fence, and this upset him...at two in the morning)
one shot of black powder with out any lead in it from the "easily" loaded center shotgun barrel gets peoples attention, the fact that it looks like a frigg'n hand cannon(well,it is,but it looks the part too)scares the fuck outta them.Doesn't matter that I aint got another cylinder loaded,or that it would take me the better part of 10 minutes to load it.......I suppose if one were to persistent enough,I could club the fuck outta them with the thing.
Oddly nuff, after the handful times I've fired the thing in the middle of "Down town",I've never had the cops called.....

Any way,the only other fire arm I've fired was a small black powder cannon me and my buddy had scored while cleaning out a meth house..I came to find out, that it was a starter cannon for boat races, that some one had made a lil metal cart for, thing rode on lil kid bicycle tires(like 14 inch or some'n).Once we found out that black powder and cannon fuses were sold at big five(with out need for id OR ANYTHING 8D),we found a ball bearing that fit perfect and decided to fire it a few times...thing was loud as fuck, and none of us had thought to use ear protection the first time....filled it with a shit load of BBs once and attempted to use it as a "punt" gun on quail

aw,good times

Le Mat is a cool gun a friend of mine has one.
Yes I think it would make a effective club but the effect that 20 ga going off must be a sight to see, got to go change their underwear and all that.

The last word in brilliant reasoning there, Bama. Go for it.

Top of the list is one nobody is allowed to have - the AA12. The ultimate in peace through superior firepower.

Behind that is one not legal to possess in California - Taurus Judge 45/410.

A firearm is a tool and like every other tool you need the correct one for the occasion.

My deer rifle is a pre-64 Winchester Model 1894 with a 2-7X scope. It's chambered in .32 Winchester which is a rather expensive round to fire. It's about $2 per round these days.

For small game I have a Winchester Model 1897 in 12 gauge. Her name is Betty Page*

Both of those firearms were designed by the incomparable John Moses Browning. They float to your shoulder and it's virtually impossible to miss.

I have a Ruger Police Service-Six in .38 Sp. Not the best handgun in the world, a bit clunky, but it is a tack driver.

Ruger 10/22 which is really just a plinker. At 4 cents per round it is much cheaper to feed than my deer rifle.

I have a couple of Mosin Nagants. They were selling for $100 each, complete with bayonette, cleaning kit and all kinds of other chotzkies. I couldn't justify buying one so I bought two. 17 cents per round, but it's a full battle round. I was surprised at how easy it is to fire. It doesn't float like a JMB designed gun, but it's surprisingly close.

I have an italian calvary edition of the Carcano but ammunition is hard to come by so it's basically a very finely machined club.

My carry pistol, and this really needs a name, is a Springfield Arms XD Subcompact. She holds 13+1 rounds with the carry mag and 16+1 with the house mag. Chambered in 9mm. Completely ambidextrous. Also, I have a Crimson Trace lasergrip on her. She fits in my hand perfectly. I think she really deserves a name but I need some help with that. The safety system is excellent; I use an appendix carry so if I'm going to point a gun at my junk it better damned well be safe.

So a name for the feisty little black bondage model?

*on another site some liberals didn't like it when I mentioned firearms so it was nmentioned that maybe I should give it a name, I gave her the name of a bondage model because I felt like my hands were tied. Carrying through with that theme, I could use some names for the rest of my arsenal.

The Judge is illegal in California?
You need to move back to the U S.

I have a Purdey side-by-side 12 gauge that I treasure.

Not that I'd be allowed a handgun unless I had some special permission, but if I did it would be a Glock.

Nice shout. Some Purdeys are not so much a gun, as a work of art.

Re: your Carcano, read your post "I have a club". I found both ammo and stripper clips for your rifle, and one of the guys in my club both reloads 6.5X52C and has a box of strippers for it (not those kind, fellas).

As for my personal favorites, for OPSEC reasons I won't recite all the toys in my safe, but I have a soft spot for my Hi-Point 995 in 9mm and my Davey Crickett .22. Both were impulse buys because they were on sale (the 995 was half-price because the new style was coming in and the .22 was a hundred bucks).

The 995 came from the factory zeroed at 50 yards, and eats any kind of fodder I stuff in it. I call him "Aldo" from Planet of the Apes, because it kind of looks like the rifles the gorillas carried in the original movies. It's built like a tank, a little kludgy to operate until you're used to it, but it goes bang and hits what I aim at every time. I've taken a bunch of rabbits and a couple coyotes with it over the years

The Crickett likewise was zeroed in the day I bought it. I call him Nature-Boy, cause it's the rifle I tend to have with me when I'm out farting around in the woods. Super-light (2.5 lbs), tiny, and can use any type of .22 ammo except magnums. I stuck a cheap-o laser sight on it, and during the summer months and when I'm camping, I use it to zap rats and mice. I also use it when I'm sitting on my porch in the summertime to pop rats going for my garbage cans with BB and CB caps. Quieter than most airguns using those. I also use it to teach people how to shoot. Ladies like it because it's sooooo cute (for a rifle, anyway).

My other "named" firearm is a '69 vintage H&R 158 Topper(another hundred-dollar special) I call "Barely Legal", because when I bought it, the barrel had been sawn-off to 18.5", and when I had it crowned and beaded, it went down to 18.1". I'm planning on having it engraved with that sometime this winter, just because whenever I'm at a range or afield, the local yokels always want to check the length to see if it violates GCA 34. She's my 'go-to' gun for anything from hunting to self-defense. I chrono-ed it with slugs and buck, and the short barrel doesn't give up enough velocity to matter at the ranges I tend to shoot at, and for birds, bunnies, and squirrel it's guaranteed medicine with any field loads. It's cylinder bore, but I'm looking into having it cut for screw-in chokes when I'm a little better moneyed.

The rest don't have appellations, because they're simply tools to me and ultimately expendable. I carry a Kel-Tec PF-9 now, and have a brace of other handguns that serve other purposes. Right now, I'm in the process of reducing the size of my battery simply because I don't really have a use for most of them. The three named ones are just what I found myself using because they were so cheap, I tended to take them with me on journeys where they might get banged up, lost, or stolen.

It only took me 7 years to pay for!

I guess my favorite bolt action is my Remington 338 lapua, after that it would be my M1A.

Not familiar with Purdey but I like side by sides, they are elegant
My home defense preference is a 12 ga side-by-side coach gun with external hammers.

Is it one of those old school English arms, many are too pretty to shoot.

These are Purdeys. They are purdy.

Yep in that price range I couldn't afford to look at it.

I had never heard of Purdey so I looked them up.

CHRIST ON A CRACKER those are pretty guns! Walk into the field with one of those in the crook of your elbow and a good dog and you can't help but feel like a king!

mnottertail -> RE: For gun owners, what is your favorite. Not a gun control thread. (10/10/2013 11:36:24 AM)

OH, how could you take them someplace where they could scratch. Seems to me those are for rich blokes to look at.

Threadjack!

My brother just invented a new stock for the Mossberg 500. It has pneumatic and mechanical recoil dampening. Here's the kicker: It takes about 1 second to convert it from a full size stock to a pistol grip. We expect the prototype to be finished this week and I am already drooling over getting my hands on it.

I've seen his designs and I cannot find any weak points or flaws in it.

So I have a question: is there any interest in a convertible like this? I can only see it being useful for cops or military; no one goes wing shooting with a pistol grip shotgun.

MalcolmNathaniel -> RE: For gun owners, what is your favorite. Not a gun control thread. (10/10/2013 11:44:50 AM)

How could you not take it out into the field?

That would be like using your Ferrari for nothing but picking up groceries.
