MalcolmNathaniel -> Who's your favorite off-beat super hero? (10/10/2013 5:09:15 PM)

Look, everyone knows who the Hulk, Wonder Woman, Batman and that dude who got bitten by a spider are.

Who is your favorite super hero who no one else (or very few) has heard of?

Allow me to start: Now I don't actually read a lot of comics. Heck, I never have. One day I accidentally picked up copy of The Flaming Carrot.

Was he bitten by a radioactive arachnid? Did he come from an island of Amazonian women? Was his planet destroyed? Did he witness his parents being killed in a senseless crime?

No.

I've never been much of a comic book reader but The Maxx is my all time favorite. I love the characters, the storyline, and the art work. I have most of the comics from the collection. I still have my Maxx figurine and one of the Isz creatures. Boy did this thread take me back 20 years...

Does Aeon Flux count as a superhero? I mean the Chu animation, not that abortion of a film they made.

no, but you have the "cute power" for asking that.

the original semi-surrealist post-modernist 'hero' was invented by Steve Ditko himself, a man with a 'no face' mask over his own face (back in the 1960's LONG before Rorschach in the Watchmen who was a tribute to): The Question.

The Question was also a man who worked in news media.

published by a comic company that was owned by a news media company that could shut the comic-character down in a second.

which was exactly the kind of thing The Question mocked and fought against.

aside from that, the 1970's version of Adam Warlock, illustrated by Starlin.

MASSIVE existentialist character.

he had to fight his FUTURE, CORRUPTED SELF, who'd come to the conclusion that human kind only appreciates a depsot's power, but only behaves well to each under under a despot, so he became a despot.

don't read this book on drugs.

also, it had a badonk-booty chick-character who was anti-bulemic who looked like a cross between Kim Kardashian and Salma Hayek with an IQ over 150 so I LOVED that.

She can also carry a mean sword if necessary.

evil fucking spider from outer space masquerading as a clown wins a PRIZE.

and here's a blast from the past, which was one of the first b/w independents comics Sim plugged (no pun intended):

D'arc Tangent, by Phil Pholio himself. (Yeah, we are SERIOUSLY geeking now)

Oh, and the unfortunate cursed clown character painted by the guy ripping off Fabry's style for 2000 AD weekly circa 1995.
