I never did read the -ahem- graphic novel, but I got a huge kick out of Rorschach in the Watchmen movie.

I have the entire collection. There were a couple of heavy story arcs their creators wrote, and I consider them classics. Grass Roots and Mexican Odyssey were epic pieces, in my not-so-humble opinion. Hallelujahgobble!

Hmmm, let's see...character who lives life as a normal person, but when some bizarre-speaking super villain from another universe comes calling, she taps into some power source and magically becomes a super-powered crime-fighting being in a kinky little costume? I'll go with a tentative yes on that. How she'd do against a supervillain from the Marvel or DC universe remains an open question though.

He was also the Question, who you've already mentioned liking.
Moore's original pitch for Watchmen used the Charlton characters from the '60s, who DC had just acquired in a buy out of somebody else's intellectual property. As the plot would pretty much trash them for any further stories, Archie Goodwin told him, to use lookalikes instead.
Apparently Nite owl is Blue Beetle and Doctor Manhattan is Captain Atom as well.

Devlin Waugh. Only character to ever beat Dredd for favourite 2000 AD strip and everything.

(I'd have said D.R and Quinch, but they aren't superheroes. Or, well, heroes in any sense of the word).

yes, but having actually been paid by a company that holds the rights to the Question I wasn't really in a place to make that comment.

and I remember being MESSED with by one of the Fab Furry Freak Brothers while we shared table-space at a VERY well-known convention. No, not APE.

The gentleman in question was fantastic company, btw.

Another character in this vein would be Kirby's "The Demon". Can only speak in rhyme.

Etrigan's a phenomenal character. I've never read any of Kirby's original strips, though. Hopefully they'll get around to collecting those, now that DC have started publishing a few of the non fourth world Kirby comics as TPBs.

As for obscure superheroes, I've always liked Nightcrawler (my favourite X-Man), Rocket Raccoon (who's recently become a much bigger name), Zenith (the only real out and out superhero to appear in 2000AD), Angel and the Ape (especially as done by Phil Foglio), and Paradox (Brendan McCarthy slacker superhero).

Even though he's gotten trendy in the last few years.... Deadpool. He's my main man always.

Also my sn comes from a graphic novel with an off-beat hero Zero Girl, though I don't think she'd technically be called a super hero.

And I have a few Marvel heroes I think need more love than they get:

Siryn
Scarlet Witch
Iron Fist
Moon Knight

Scarlet Witch and Moon Knight are BIG faves, and the original Bill S. run of Moon Knight around 1980/1981 was AMAZING.

You'd think with all the Phantasmal Stuff on TV Marvel would get a clue and stop ghetto-izing Wanda. But maybe that's because they don't want to deal with Pietro.

who seems like he needs to guest star on The Nw Normal to help him embrace his "Fabulous" self. *ahem*

I ain't clickin' nuthin' the Sewer Clown puts as a link!

Another great one, very well drawn, edgy and smart (thus unappreciated during the 70's) was Jack of Hearts. I'll bet some asswank iTard fanboy scores a gig "retro-conning" him and dumming him down for this current decade, though.

no, no more satirical anthropomorphized piss-takes on comics! Except for Howard the Duck.

Oh wow, I totally forgot about him. And Paranoid Punkpig, and Pig From The Future. Y'know, I've been cleaning out and I ran across my collection...it may be time to refresh my memory. Or something. There was also a footer toon about a wino superhero, but I can't remember his name.
