YES That is great news and a fine start.

This post is worth repeating.

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing about DC, how his surgery went.

Besides lifting him up in prayer for continued strength & courage; the wisdom of his surgeon(s), other physicians, nurses, anyone else responsible for his care; the aftercare process is critical. Well-wishing thoughts & prayers for a boosted immune system, zero chance of infection, efficacy of medications administered (no adverse side effects), speedy but thorough recovery and a smooth recuperative period, keeping a positive & hopeful state of mind throughout--these are all equally as important factors for him. It's not over yet by a longshot.

Meanwhile, I'm sure we'll hear something soon enough in due time, so let's keep sending positive healing energy his way.

Go dc! We will continue to hold you in our thoughts and prayers.

Attaboy, DC! May you feel better and better each and every day!

xxblushesxx -> RE: Virtual Prayer Circle? (10/18/2013 4:08:17 AM)

Since I've been gone a while, I didn't know he was sick. I really like the thread he made documenting his illness and his thoughts and feelings. Here's hoping for a swift and easy recovery. (I hope you feel a lot better soon, DC!)

Missed this thread the first time around but I'll happily pray for a speedy recovery.

Me too.

One of my friends stopped in to see him and tells me he is doing well.

Thanks. everyone!

Here's my latest update:

Oct 18 | Messy Divorce

She’s gone.

During a ten-hour operation on Monday, Dr. John Marks and his team, including a massive robot, evicted MiMA from my rectum and rerouted my plumbing. I awoke Tuesday morning with a temporary colostomy that will handle waste disposal as my revamped exit route heals. I’ll likely have it at least three months.

I won’t sugarcoat things: This recovery will be long and hard.. My innards have been massively reconfigured, and my abdomen—the equatorial region, as Woodrow Wilson would call it—hurts quite a bit. But the docs and nurses say I’m looking good and progressing appropriately. I finally ventured out of my room yesterday, with the aid of a walker. Made it about halfway down a long hall toward a window that promises enticing views. Reached 75 percent this morning. Actually gazed out the window this afternoon. Quite a comedown from the “death march” DC tours I once offered to friends and family!

Around tea time, I was moved from the ICU when a bed finally opened up elsewhere. Hopefully things will be quieter. I’ve been struck constantly during this year’s hospital stays by how things seem almost designed to shatter patients’ opportunities for what Florence Nightingale identified as the primary key to healing—sleep.

Sleep deprivation, the worst helplessness of my adult life, and the weary, unending struggle to navigate medical bureaucracy have rubbed me almost raw. So has pain, of course. I try not to inflict my low moods on my amazing parents (who have been love itself through this whole ordeal), but I don’t always succeed. Apologies, Mom and Dad!

I’ve been buoyed by the love and support folks have given me, and I especially appreciate the ones sent via the Lankenau website (I think), because Mom kindly taped them to the wall opposite my bed, so I’m constantly reminded of folks’ loved. Replies will take a while, so please be patient. Thanks!

Lots more to say, but no energy for saying it now. Stay tuned.

Love to you all!

Xxoo
DC

Good to hear you came through it as well as can be hoped for good luck in your recovery.

DomKen -> RE: Virtual Prayer Circle? (10/18/2013 8:17:38 PM)

YAY! I'm so glad you're doing well.

MistressDarkArt -> RE: Virtual Prayer Circle? (10/18/2013 9:58:09 PM)

DC darlin', please ask for a sleeping pill and have someone bring you ear plugs and an eye shade. You MUST get some restorative sleep when hospitals are notorious for denying you just that. Also, please ask for pain meds whenever you're uncomfortable. Now is not the time for stoicism. Struggling with pain will lengthen your recovery time.

Better living through chemistry, I always say! [8D]

I'm so happy to see you post, DC! You have incredible courage.

Very glad to hear that the healing process has begun. Both MP and Myself send love your way.

ChatteParfaitt -> RE: Virtual Prayer Circle? (10/19/2013 6:09:02 AM)

I'm glad you're on the road to recovery !!

I'm echoing MDA's post about sleep. Tell the nurse to stop the constant checks so you can sleep, and if they won't/can't talk to the head nurse and ask to speak to your doc.

When I was in the hospital a few months back, talking to the nurses did nothing, talking to my doc worked wonders.

My strongest spiritual healing mojo is going your way.
