Ilyrium -> Literary question of sorts: Why do so many Dominants say they're Dominate? (10/14/2013 1:09:46 PM)

I'm sure it has a reason, deeply rooted in something, somewhere, in their upbringing or educations - but - it is bothersome to see - so - I simply ask:

Do you have an idea why so many people say they're "Dominate" [sic]?

hlen5 -> RE: Literary question of sorts: Why do so many Dominants say they're Dominate? (10/14/2013 1:13:34 PM)

For the same reason the dog in your pic{ture :-)} licks itself - because he can.

Seriously, considering some of the missives one gets on here, that's small potatoes.

Why do people say female dominant or male dominant instead dominant woman or dominant man? Technically, dominant and submissive are adjectives and man and woman are nouns. But people use dominant and submissive as nouns all the time.

Cos when you spend all your time with your head jammed right up your ass, 'dominate' sounds just like 'dominant'.

This is interesting, as I hadn't thought of the noun versus the adjective aspect of this.
What I had noticed was a plethora of "dominate woman" and "dominate man" profiles.

I was wondering if the verb "dominate" had an adjectival use?

ResidentSadist -> RE: Literary question of sorts: Why do so many Dominants say they're Dominate? (10/14/2013 2:26:26 PM)

Because English is not the primary language of the NIgerian scammers profiles you are reading.

ExtonSadist -> RE: Literary question of sorts: Why do so many Dominants say they're Dominate? (10/14/2013 2:31:17 PM)

Probably because on the Other Side profiles are identified as 'Male Dominant' or 'Female Dominant' in the upper right of each profile.

Within the context of sheer ignorance, the primary language of Nigeria is English.

A parallel could be drawn between both, but I think it is very much easy for people to mix up the adjectives and nouns. But I think it isn't just Dominants that use the word, "dominate", you also read and hear that from Tops, bottoms, subs, slaves and all, say "dominate" within the false grammatical usage.

I do agree that the adjectives should qualify the nouns when talking of which sex or gender is Dominant.

But the other one is just plain lack of knowledge of understanding the use of English Language. Not everyone that speaks English as first language knows how to read and write it. It is much easier to learn the formula of math than the control and command of the English language.

I am not trying to excuse anyone.

I really don't know what that has to do with someone saying, "I am a Dominate" or "I am looking for a real Dominate person".

They want to be in control of any relationship and are afraid to be anything else. They also reason that if they are not going to be submissive then they better be listed as a Dom even if they cannot even Dom their own life. There are many of those here, you know.

I know this by reading many of the notes my lovely, you know who, submissive gets daily. I found that all except one out of hundreds are wanker one liners or incredible and ridiculous offers to immediately do this or that for them or even relocate. I am amazed there are so many guys on here trying those lines, it is enough to make me want to terminate my account just so I don't get lumped in with that lot but then I realize I don't personally know most here and those who do know me, know me. Now, on a personal note, my submissive says I am Dominant in her short journal and she is the only one who must believe that besides me.

P.S. On a related topic, you successful Doms must be as amazed as I am that the submissive you met here on CM managed to see your honest introduction note and zero in on you considering all the crap these ladies must filter through.

P.S.S. On another side but related topic, I never get upset over another Dom complementing her and/or suggesting I am very lucky, and I suppose that is true of all of you because Doms are confident in their relationships even when things get rough, not that they ever get rough with us, you understand. Right darling?

That's common in Spanish and I assume other Romance languages, to use an adjective as a noun.

SL

There are hundreds of languages spoken in Nigeria. English is the "official" language but it is not the main or primary spoken language. The main regional languages are Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba Edo, Efik, Fulani, Idoma, Ijaw, and Kanuri. That is why Nigerian email fraud letters have so much trouble using proper English syntax and the fake profiles at CollarMe use words like dominate when it should be dominant.

Look dude, it is not my fault Nigeria's claim to fame on the internet is for massive fraud and bad English. I appreciate your wanting to defend them. But many online services have blocked out and banned the banks of IP addresses from Nigeria so their services aren't spammed with scams. The Nigerian scams are so renown for bad English, security is trained to spot the scams quickly by the common syntax misuse, then they IP track and confirm. That seems contrary to English really being a primary language in Nigeria.

I will stand corrected if the millions of Nigerian email, bank fraud and dating profile fraud at all the dating sites are all sent by one guy with bad English and the rest of the country all speak perfect English . . . but that seems highly unlikely.

Probably for the same reason some guys use random girls as their primary pic. They just don't know any better.

servuspet -> RE: Literary question of sorts: Why do so many Dominants say they're Dominate? (10/15/2013 8:19:58 AM)

These boards are funny.
It seems like 99% of the topics are just guys trolling for wank material.
Then every once in a while there's something like this.
The simple answer is "bad English".
And now that I have "When I See You Smile" stuck in my head, I'm learning about the official language of Nigeria.
The 'snark' around here can make most of the threads un-readable.

OsideGirl -> RE: Literary question of sorts: Why do so many Dominants say they're Dominate? (10/15/2013 10:07:44 AM)

What I find funny, is that even in this thread there were people that missed what the OP was saying.

Dominate is a verb, you cannot be a verb.

People that say that they are a "Dominate" either aren't smart enough to know the difference or aren't willing to put any effort into making a first impression by proof reading what they've written.
