Aneirin -> Scene events (7/2/2006 7:59:26 AM)

I am trying to get more active in the BDSM scene, and have been asked to attend some of the local fetish events. This is something I would like to do,but most of the events rules of dress stipulates fetish wear.I am new to this, and do not have anything suitable.I have had a brief look on the net and have found some of the stuff for males quite 'outlandish',me being on my first steps, would like something a little more conservative, has anyone any ideas, advice?

JessieMe -> RE: Scene events (7/2/2006 8:03:05 AM)

<laffin> tell them you have a denim fetish and go in jeans..  <wink>

Fetish wear can mean anything to anyone.. If you  have something basic black like jeans and a t-shirt..that will go with anything.. Dont let the clothing keep you from joining in. Not everyone wears "high fetish" to events.

MstrssPassion -> RE: Scene events (7/2/2006 8:07:03 AM)

As for men...

Wearing a dress shirt & pants can be fine. I see by your profile you identify as switch. If you attend these events how do you feel you would identify?

I would suggest you go with dressy-casual... don't fall into that horrid gap of black leather vest & blue jeans... you would look like 90% of the other guys in the room.

Since you are new take time to find your niche as far as fetish styled clothing. Many men go for a very gentlemanly attire. Some go for a period, such as Victorian. Some get into uniforms. Others go full out & get into head to toe leather, PVC or latex... but of course these types have a fetish for this material.

Above all else... always be yourself!

bandit25 -> RE: Scene events (7/2/2006 8:09:17 AM)

I suppose you prolly would look like 90% of the other guys, but I happen to like blue jeans and black is my favorite color.

When I go to events where I'm not sure of the way I should dress, I err on the side of being dressed up too much because I don't want to be inappropriately under dressed.

JohnWarren -> RE: Scene events (7/2/2006 8:12:22 AM)

My answer when someone asks me to "dress fetish" is "I don't wear leather; I hit people with leather."  However, seriously, almost anything can be "fetish."  I have a nice black silk shirt that usually gets me by the door.  Another not very expensive "fetish" accessory is a leather vest.

darkinshadows -> RE: Scene events (7/2/2006 8:13:28 AM)

Hello A... we will go shopping and have lots of fun!(There is 'westward bound' and 'dare!' if you really want to go for something extreme and 'different')

Seriously, it is all about what you are comfortable in.  Some people can have a leather fetish, others will have something for denim.  Clothing is a wonderful addition of who and what you are, but you are still yourself.  The main thing is that you feel comfortable, otherwise you will just feel out of place and not be able to mingle in the way you would like.

But I am so up for that shopping trip though....

In general, "all black" works for the grand majority of kink events.  At most kink events if they are not special balls or formals, jeans and a tshirt work just fine.

A black suit can be a very nice look as well.

lanwolf -> RE: Scene events (7/2/2006 8:22:19 AM)

i have to agree fet wear can be anything even finding a pair or combat pants and a black t-shirt or a pair of jeans.

krikket -> RE: Scene events (7/2/2006 8:25:27 AM)

What a marvelous response, John...<grins>  If i could "borrow" it, turn it around to something like:  i don't weat leather, i refer to be hit or bound by leather"...i'm a lady that likes to prepared for all occassions. lol

thanks.

There is a person in the local community who is always dressed up. Shirt, tie, dress slacks with, usually, a nice hat. His "fetish" is more formal wear.

Find a style of clothing that is you, or that you want to be your play style, and wear it with panache.

Aneirin -> RE: Scene events (7/2/2006 9:08:58 AM)

Thankyou to you all,

that has cleared that up,I shall stay as I am as I am comfortable with that at the present.Though a shopping trip might be on the cards in the future .dark. hahaha!

So I am happy with the smart casual appearance, that is me at the present, and am glad that may be accepted at events.I just could not envisage myself in some of the gear I saw,I would be scared to leave the house, never mind travel to an event, even a short distance!

Thankyou also to LA,the links you provided did help.

My thoughts exactly.  Fetish wear is what you are into at the moment.  If they are not willing to accept your attire, then it's really not some where you wanna be anyway right?

emek -> RE: Scene events (7/2/2006 9:56:27 AM)

as a person hosting and producing S&M partys I would advise you first to check out what are the attire requirements for the evening you are going to attend. you can get into most partys and munches with dress black , but some others would not accept that. at  the 'hot topic' stores you can find realy nice SKA dress clothes , you can check out goth clothing stores for more unique and personal wear. please remmember that you can bring the fetish attire with you to the club hidden under a rain coat, thats what I do. that way nobody needs to know what are wearing for the club.

good luck!!!

Emek,
Thankyou for the advice,I have already thought to look into Goth fashion,it is something that interests me already. But yes it would be advisable to check with the organisers first.

fyrekittyn -> RE: Scene events (7/2/2006 1:34:37 PM)

Personally, I wear what is comfortable. But, I do like to dress up. And, I am rarely in clothes for long before I find myself stripped and tied to something!

TolerableCruelty -> RE: Scene events (7/2/2006 2:20:52 PM)

You can never go wrong with a black 3 or 4 button suit... white shirt... black tie.

add some nice sterling silver cuff links and a dab of hair gel.... you'll gain entry to just about anywhere.
