I'm all for religious freedom but geez... [8|]

quote:

WASHINGTON (AP) — A woman described by lawmakers and aides as a long-time House stenographer has been removed from the chamber during a vote after she began shouting.

The woman was yelling from the rostrum Wednesday just below where the House presiding officer sits. The microphone she was yelling into was off.

Lawmakers said she was yelling about the House being divided and the devil. Texas Democratic Rep. Joaquin Castro said she had a crazed look on her face.

As she was led into an elevator by security, she was heard to shout, "This is not one nation under God. It never was."

She also screamed, "Praise be to God, Lord Jesus Christ."

The outburst occurred while the House was voting on legislation ending the government shutdown and extending the federal debt limit.

Crap, you mean someone figured it out?

So that was what that was about. I was watching the vote when something started happening on the rostrum.

A fitting addition to the complete craziness of the latest soap opera from DC.

Perhaps her problem is that she was overlooked for the leading roles, and restricted to a kind of 'walk-on' role in the pantomime.

Her performance and lines matched those of others who enjoyed far more prominent billings. Her demonstrated ability to improvise effectively was in sharp contrast to the wooden, stodgy performances of those in the lead roles. The big names were a disappointment, leaving the distinct impression that they would much prefer to be somewhere else

Clearly some questions need to be asked of the director, producer and scriptwriter. If this spectacle is going to enjoy the long successful run we were promised, these people need to get their act together. One is left wondering whether a show of this ambition demands talents greater than those on offer.

It feels generous to award this sorry spectacle a mere two stars.

Helps to recall that this is the "House of the People." The lady certainly has a constituency out in the and. Unlike the others in that chamber, however, she was not elected.

I'm giving it two thumbs down. But the event does bring to my attention (again) just how much the words "one nation under God" are taken too literally by some people (IMO). If I have an issue with the Republicans, it isn't because of things like the shutdown. It's their acceptance of the kind of thinking this woman represents.

The poor woman O.D.ed on Tea Party political insanity and crashed. I know how she feels. Hope they can cure her.

You know, that puts me in mind of those people who stand outside railway stations and in shopping precincts bellowing about The Lord. I've often thought, for every one person who's convinced by what they're shouting and actually does 'turn to The Lord', there'll be hundreds who'll think, 'Right. I was reconsidering my agnosticism or my atheism for a bit last night, but that bloke's put me straight. Only loonies like him buy the religion thing.'
