EnsomUlv -> What do you consider the beginner level props? (10/17/2013 5:10:50 AM)

Im not a beginning but for some reason I seem to attract "virginal" girls (both literally and non-literally) so what do you consider your go to ease into it once props are a point?

ChatteParfaitt -> RE: What do you consider the beginner level props? (10/17/2013 5:16:07 AM)

Props?

My gear aren't props, as I actually use them.

Seriously. Um something to bind someone with, a scarf or stockings? Something to blindfold someone with, same. Something to hit them with, your hand, a flogger (not a whip).

There's a BDSM non-fiction book list with good ideas for intro gear you can buy or make yourself.

If they are just props, I got nothing.

Well, scarves might be less scary than handcuffs, a pantie gag less threatening than a ball gag; so basically you could start with stuff from around the house rather than from Extreme Restraints or where ever.

My (now ex) husband and I started off with a small purple suede flogger and worked our way up to heavier leather ones.

"Im not a beginning"
- seems you're not big on grammar or punctuation either

"but for some reason I seem to attract "virginal" girls (both literally and non-literally)"
- what is a non-literal virgin . . . a slut?

"so what do you consider your go to ease into it once props are a point?"
WTF does "go to ease into it" mean"?
WTF does "props are a point" mean?

Are you really saying that you will "go to ease into it" when "props are a point"? What does that mean? Are you British transplanted to LA and this is some British slang? If you do think you are speaking English, not exercising some modicum of communication skills with the people you seek advice from is pretty disrespectful. Some of the crew on the forum has been nice enough to start guessing at what the hell you mean. Me, I just want to know what the fuck you are saying.

graceadieu -> RE: What do you consider the beginner level props? (10/20/2013 3:36:03 PM)

As far as I could tell, he's saying that he's meeting a lot of women that are entirely new to BDSM (the "non-literal virgins"), and wants to convince them to do some kind of kink activities with him, but is worried about scaring them off. So he wants to know what kind of toys he could get that wouldn't be too scary for beginners.

To which my response would be - well, it depends a whole lot on what you want to do and what they want to do.

I think you mean 'have'. [;)]
Resident has a good point this is a confusing question (and not any British English slang I ever heard). Making the same assumptions as everyone else stick to what households have scarves, belts, hands etc.

Resident Sadist is the worst kind of sadist....an English Teacher!!!!

DesFIP -> RE: What do you consider the beginner level props? (10/21/2013 7:03:22 PM)

Hands, scarves, belts, wooden spoons, hairbrush. And the belt off a robe can be tied restrictively but is thick enough to prevent compression of the nerves on the wrists.

Toysinbabeland -> RE: What do you consider the beginner level props? (10/21/2013 7:10:41 PM)

For the OP:

By all means man, get your next virgin into the room with a simple yet elegant sybian, but make sure you've tried it on yourself first. That ought to do it, because you shouldn't use things unless you know first hand what they do.
Let me know how that works out.
Good luck.

I'm sure you mean gear. I think something non-threatening while using contrast, like the small pretty floggers and bright colored feathers with plastic handle, silk scarf, ice for her thirst, her vulva and the small of her back.

Thank you for the correction. That is pretty funny to let the type-0 go through while picking apart someone's grammar. LMAO.

For an absolute neophyte I'd (grudgingly) recommend a set of those dorky 'love bondage' restraints every toy site has. They're cheap, appear comfortable, and are 'escapable', if that's a word. You can use a pair of regulation cuffs as a 'prop' somewhere in view for a first time, to give 'em a taste of what's to come (maybe). If you're cheap (like me) ACE bandages are a nice option-wide, elastic, and if applied properly give a good balance between comfort and restriction.

My past experience tells me rope tends to freak newbies unless it's that silky crap they sell for curtains and decorations. Scarves and bandannas are okay, but I've had issues with knots getting too tight under stress to be untied. Wide, snug, and soft are the goal here.

Newbee or not so much, include the blunt end medical scissors to quickly free your hostage if she panics, or something. It is a mark of someone who knows what they are doing. I am amazed to have seen public players who are thought to be well experienced show up with pointed scissors expecting to cut their thrashing submissive out without stabbing them accidently.

youthinkso121 -> RE: What do you consider the beginner level props? (10/29/2013 10:17:57 PM)

never played in public... at home I expect a damn sharp pair of scissors, or sharp knife to be on hand to undo any bits of rope in an emergency.

I'd rather a slight cut to my arm than being dead, because a dingbat thought blunt scissors were safer.

Oh and if you cant calm your sub enough to release bondage, you aint Dom.

Blunt point scissors cut rope as well or better than a knife. They avoid the possibility of stabbing your subject to death in an attempt to quickly release her for whatever reason, choking, fire, seizure, so I guess I "ain't a Dom" for using one.

Blunt ENDED scissors. The blades are still sharp enough to cut rope or fabric, but the tip is rounded so you don't stab someone while you are trying to get the cutting surface underneath the rope. Standard emergency medical equipment.

And on the last point, I disagree. The human mind is a complex thing. People sometimes panic, even if they are doing something which logically they know to be safe with someone they trust. Especially people who are new to this kind of thing - they may bump into mental triggers and past issues which they never knew they had. Hell, something totally non-scene may happen like a seizure. You can't ever be certain that won't happen, and no matter how good a dom you are, you can't talk someone out of a seizure.

I'd take the 'dingbat' with his medical scissors just in case, over someone who thinks they're so awesome at being dom they won't have an issue. I wouldn't play with someone who took that attitude, because I'd be concerned that their need to appear like a super-dom would outweigh their concern for my safety.

MasterCaneman -> RE: What do you consider the beginner level props? (10/30/2013 3:03:21 PM)

He was talking about those paramedic scissors that can cut pennies. A marlinspike (which I tend to call a 'rigger's pick') is also handy if you're doing rope. Get one with a sheath, or even look into the company's Sailor's Tool. At the club I worked at, a pick was standard equipment for the 'safety dudes', along with assorted cuff keys, and a ring-knife when things started going wrong for guests.

DanielleofMists -> RE: What do you consider the beginner level props? (10/30/2013 8:51:19 PM)

It depends on whose hands the cheese grater is in ;-)
