San Francisco and London respectively - *very* crackly old film footage. I keep watching these, over and again - they're kind of mesmerising.

Those were very interesting.

It was weird to see the cars weaving in and out of horse-drawn carriages. I'm surprised some of those horses didn't spook, as close as the cars were driving. I suppose they were used to it.

In the London one, I was impressed that most of the adverts I could make out were for brands that still exist today - Hovis, Kodak, Pears Soap, Cadbury's (I think).

Further info: the San Francisco film was made just a few days before the terrible earthquake of 1906 . Much of what you see was destroyed, apparently. Also, someone has noticed that certain cars appear frequently - he/she thinks that this was set up to make it look like there were more cars on the road.

You know, what gets me is how fit people look. Big, strong strides. They were used to doing a *lot* of walking. Another thing: no clear distinction between road and footpath. People were sauntering all around those vehicles.
