A few years ago, I settled on a computer desk that was made of metal and particle board simply because I could not find a desk that I really liked.

This weekend, I took two solid hardwood boards, stained them and replaced the two biggest pieces of the particle board. The total cost was 40 for the wood and stain, and the original 99 for the desk.

I have decided that next week end I am replacing the keyboard shelf, and the two other shelves doing the same thing, because it actually looks really nice.

I am seriously thinking of doing the same to some other furniture made the same way, the metal frame and particle board shelves.

I just saw someone do similar on one of those flea market shows, where you buy an item to flip it. I was amazed at how nice the piece came out. I want to try it...lol...but have to wait to find something I need that fits the criteria.

I know the feeling. It is almost impossible to find furniture that does not contain "engineered wood".
I hate the urea that outgasses from particle board.
