We had the exact same debate over a universal health care system here in Australia during the 1980s, when Medicare was introduced by the centre-left Labor Govt.

The opposition from entrenched vested interests and the conservative side of politics was fierce. All the rhetoric and hyperbole being used by the Right in the US currently was thrown at Medicare. Ditto all the predictions of doom and ruin.

After a couple of years of operation, Medicare proved itself to be a far superior system and far more popular than the bad old days of private healthcare. It proved so popular that the conservative side of politics abandoned its opposition after a couple of years.

Nowadays Medicare is so popular that it is a 'sacred cow' and no-one, absolutely no one dares to advocate for its dissolution. My guess is that exactly the same will happen in the US. In a few years time, Obamacare will prove itself to be far superior to the old system and everyone will accept that it is here to stay.

Your luck. Here in the UK, the conservatives couldn't get away with destroying it, so they're privatising it by salami slices. In the end, it'll still be called "National Health Service," but it'll be NHS Plc and it'll be 90% owned by foreign investors.

What is the difference in medical care spending pre- and post- Medicare?

Did costs drop by 50%?

Of course, the IRS would never target someone for an audit who owed money...

Oh forget that! The IRS would never target people just because they had a conservative oriention.

Oh wait.

Yeah you forgot it because it never happened. That was nutsacker lies.

You must have a short memory, but I clearly remember the head of the IRS apologising for the Conservative bias of his agency. And Obama saying he was going to find out who was responsible. (that line of shit Obama uses for every scandal his administration gets into)

mnottertail -> RE: obamacare 2 points up! (10/28/2013 12:36:03 PM)

Yeah, no that is sheer stupidity, and not what happened your memory is got a few large holes blown in it. what occurred is the nutsacker put in that place by the W administration, planted the question with a reporter friend of hers, to ask so she could make that statement. Events proved it untrue.

When it was investigated, turned out that the nutsackers were lying (wow, what a revelation) again, and that is was an across the board issue.

Phydeaux -> RE: obamacare 2 points up! (10/28/2013 1:30:04 PM)

Yeah, the Obama administration official leaked the news, to spin it because the inspector general's report was coming out.
And so far two people have retired because of the scandal and lerner is claiming the right to not incriminate herself.

And the sworn testimony that applications for tea party groups were sent to Washington for political control is *fact*.

So fuck your nutsacking lies.

The head of the IRS got "slicked" into an apology? lol And Obama going on national TV and vowing to "get to the bottom of it" was "slicked too? lol lol lolol
