jlf1961 -> According to FOX news.... (10/24/2013 12:15:11 PM)

quote:

Conservative media outlets, including Fox News, are spreading a new conspiracy theory about the Department of Homeland Security bracing for "food stamp riots" on November 1.

The hysteria started over an ad on the Federal Business Opportunities government website, which posted an ad for armed guards. The ad reads in part:

The Federal Protective Service (FPS) is conducting Market Research to locate qualified, experienced, and interested potential Small Business Sources capable of providing Protective Security Officers (PSO) Services throughout Upstate New York.

...This acquisition is for approximately 380,000 hours of Basic Service, 20,000 hours of Temporary Additional Services and 3,500 hours of Emergency Security Services per year. Currently, there are an estimated 205 guards protecting approximately 95 posts at over 55 buildings. The estimated value of this Contract is between $75M and $80M.

Fox News' Conspiracy Theory: DHS Preparing for Food Stamp Riots

Now I know that FOX news is the only unbiased news source in the United States. (note sarcasm)

But taking a story from infowars and running it as actual news?

I mean I know that a large number of conservatives feel that SNAP benefits are just a hand out for people too lazy to work, or elderly people on social security too stubborn to die the day after they turn 65, but come on, this is just too screwed up to be taken seriously.

Are such being hired? There is a link to the gov site. If so, why are they being hired?

From InfoWars...

Why does the DHS feel the need to blow $80 million dollars at a time of cutbacks on yet more armed guards to protect government buildings during “public demonstrations”? What is the federal agency preparing for? Food stamp riots? Anti-IRS demonstrations? Or some other form of civil disorder?

Or maybe this is for the guards all those buildings always have? Maybe the existing contract is expiring and they have to let it out again?

jlf1961 -> RE: According to FOX news.... (10/24/2013 12:59:49 PM)

They are looking for private security firms to cover contracts for full time security officers at Federal buildings, as well as the possible need for riot control teams which is the usual terms in a federal security contract. It is a standard contingency clause in any private security contract government or other wise.

When I worked for a private international security firm, I did riot control duty during the Rodney King riots in LA, a couple of airline worker strikes and at a couple of nuclear facilities when anti nuke protestors decided to make a nuisance of themselves.

Now feel free to buy into the prophets of doom like Alex Jones, and believe that there will be people rioting when food stamps get cut, I really dont care.

Once more it is proven that Stan Smith is too moderate to be a conservative.

According to what was posted the contract is worth between 75 and 80 million dollars. You say there will be about 158 people nationwide. Divide 80 million by 158. Damm, those guards will be making some damm nice money!

Did someone forget to check how long the contract is for?

jlf1961 -> RE: According to FOX news.... (10/24/2013 4:28:38 PM)

OF course why would the government have to contract private security firms when they have been buying up tons of ammo for use by FEMA and DHS?

Mildly interesting aside: the anti benefits 'scroungers' propaganda purveyed relentlessly in the UK *always* makes an exception for pensioners. These are cast instead as heroes who've fought and died in two world wars and worked 25/8 all the rest of the time, versus everyone else living on state money (including the sick and disabled) who are, of course, scum. The reason why pensioners are always categorised in an entirely different way is perhaps not unrelated to the fact that they tend to vote - and to vote Tory, in particular.

According to what was posted, it's 205 guards. Presumably plus support/admin personnel, equipment, liability insurance, transportation, etc. For who knows how long the contract is.

Let's say, hypothetically, it's a two-year contract, and half of the cost is wages for the guards. That means each guard is making, let's see, $75m/2 years/205 * 1/2 wages = $91,500. That's a pretty good wage, but within the range of what a police officer might make.

joether -> RE: According to FOX news.... (10/24/2013 10:14:10 PM)

I don't feel like sifting through the moronic conservative bullshit; could someone explain where the 'evidence' comes of these food stamp riots that are 'suppose' to take place on Nov 1? Or is this just another phantom that doesn't exist.....like......massive voter fraud?

jlf1961 -> RE: According to FOX news.... (10/25/2013 5:44:40 AM)

There is no "evidence" per say, just the random and normal thought processes of Alex Jones and his conspiracy preaching conservative group and FOX news.

Kinda rates up there with the fact that the Obama administration is planning on waging war on the American Citizens because FEMA, DHS and the IRS are buying up lots of ammo and assault rifles. Surprisingly, the NRA does not support that conspiracy theory.

Not all conservatives are this mentally unstable, in fact many conservatives on these boards seem like perfectly reasonable individuals. Those who hold more extreme conservative views seem to be missing of late, but that is neither here nor there.

However, I would say that this demonstrates clearly that the people at FOX news has left the realm of sanity and has followed the rabbit down the rabbit hole and have come under the influence of the Mad Hatter.

Fox News’s Howard Kurtz (sort of) addresses Obamacare distortions on ‘Hannity’

jlf1961 -> RE: According to FOX news.... (10/25/2013 7:13:12 AM)

Lucy, it really is bad form to point out facts to those individuals who do not want to hear the facts.

It is kinda like standing on a rock cliff over looking the ocean and yelling to your friend that just jumped in that there is a large shark coming towards him from behind. You know he cant get out of the water before the shark gets him, and if you tell him about the shark, he will just panic thus losing those last few seconds of pleasure.

Yes I am being sarcastic, but it is before noon, I am awake and I have been dealing with dogs who evidently have a secret stash of whatever the canine equivalent to amphetamines and coffee is.
