Did anyone see the 2 hour documentary on CNN about the Orca whales at Sea World called Blackfish ? I didn't have a clue. I've been to Sea World in Orlando. I always thought they were content and happy animals. The part where they took the baby from her mother and shipped her off was heart breaking. And trainers not having a clue about the dangers, prior mishaps and lies told to them by management was an eye opener. Now I'm wondering what's possibly up with the dolphins.

Sorry, didn't watch it, but I LOVE Orcas as much as dolphins. All tuxedo-looking animals catch my fancy (pandas, penguins, kitties, pointers).

It's worth a watch, especially if you love them. The way they are held in very small areas is about the same as keeping a dog penned up in a tiny space 23 hours a day and letting him out in a bit larger space for an hour to make him do tricks if he wants to eat.

It's too depressing to see them penned in at places like SeaWorld. I saw a movie a few years ago where the mother & calf lived in a harbor, except it had a bittersweet ending. I love seeing animals & marine life in the wild, in their natural habitats.

There was a documentary about how a mother octopus gives up her life in exhaustion when nesting in order to ensure the preservation of her babies, all of whom start life motherless. It made me cry.

First of all, there is not a marine park on the planet that has the facilities to properly house one of these animals, let alone a number of them.

Second, I do not believe the spiel about orcas or dolphins "enjoying" performing.

Third, getting close or in the water with one of these animals is about as intelligent as drawing great whites in by chumming the water, then going free diving with them.

Unfortunately, considering the harm that humans continue to do to the oceans (read about the pacific gyre full of trash) the only place we may eventually see these animals is going to be in an aquarium or marine park.

I'm in the uk, so don't watch CNN, but
I'm amazed that this is a shock.

The film free willy, gave a damn good insight into what these whales are put through. Plus every other animal in captivity.

If you'd ever swam in the wild with dolphins, they do enjoy, what we call performing.

They do it naturally, and have been proven and documented as doing this to help fisherman etc.
