Just FYI here, but as a Californian in good legal standing, I can walk in to the local hardware store, lay down my money, and, after a little wait, pick up a military looking semi-automatic rifle just like the one this character had. All legal. I'd prefer 7.62 mm, if I was thinking kill-spree, but that is just a personal choice. Prices start around $600.

The assault weapon ban expired years ago.

Thanks for the update , I'd take a 12 ga pump or autoloader that way you never have that embarrassing moment when you are empty.  But you are right a 7,62 is much better.
The Ca ban on high capacity magazines hasn't expired has it?

I'm honestly not sure what the status is on sale of those. I've slowed going past the racks, but I've never really spent any time checking out the accessories. It's legal to have them.

I imagine Google might have a better answer than I do.

Doesn't really matter to me I don't live there and my "high capacity" magazines hold ten rounds.
If I can't stop it with eleven I would be in the wrong fight.

I didn't have a clue. Do all the guns that were on that list still need to be registered ?

More details on the shooter

quote:

Paul Anthony Ciancia, the 23-year-old man accused of opening fire inside one of the nation’s largest airports on Friday, was reportedly angry at the government and told his family he was prepared to die.

U.S. Attorney Andre Birotte Jr. said that Ciancia entered Los Angeles International Airport on Friday morning carrying a .223-caliber M&P-13 assault rifle and an estimated 150 rounds of ammunition.

His shooting spree resulted in the first-ever death of a Transportation Security Administration officer, 39-year-old Gerardo I. Hernandez. Five others were wounded in the incident before Ciancia himself was repeatedly shot and then apprehended by law enforcement.

Birotte said that Ciancia has been charged with murdering a federal officer and commission of violence in an international airport, both felonies.

"He looked at me and asked, 'TSA?' I shook my head no, and he continued on down toward the gate, eye witness Leon Saryan, 65, said of his encounter with Ciancia. “He had his gun at the ready and but for the grace of God I am here to tell about it."

...

Ciancia was reportedly shot four times, including once in the mouth and in the leg. Authorities have not released any official updates on Ciancia’s condition, only saying that he is being treated for his injuries at a local area hospital.

A law enforcement official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said that Cianci was carrying a one-page, handwritten note that described himself as a “pissed-off patriot” who wanted to kill TSA employees and “pigs” for allegedly violating his constitutional rights. In broader terms, the note is said to have contained conspiratorial accusations against the federal government and a new world order. The note also reportedly expressed anger at former Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano.

So, he was angry at the federal government and targeting TSA employees.

I've been looking for information on this but everything I find indicates the ban is still in effect. I found something that says guns must specifically listed and there is a procedure for adding guns to it. It's not good enough to charge some one under the law with possession of a *type* of rifle listed. So it seems maybe there is some ambiguity in the law as far as using broad definitions for *assault weapon*.

To some reports the shooter, Paul Ciancia, targeted TSA guards, he may or may not have been connected to a conspiracy group that believed the US government was trying to create a new world order. Now all the rumors and theorists will have fun with this.

Have some individual or committee talk to the security agencies in other countries and come up with a standard set of screening procedures that do not violate a persons right to privacy or feel like they are being groped by a pervert.

Why do you hate me?
Why must you try to suck all the fun out of my life?

It is still ten rounds here...but if you solder three of the tens together you have an illegal 30 round mag but if you tape them together they are legal, go figure...even at the cop range where they let non cops shoot.
