Are we all here a community or a bunch of bdsm life individualists? this is a quetion raised many times in my mind over the past 5 years, since my return to Israel from living in the USA.
Does bdsm orianted ppl share a common goal in criating a better society for man kind, a tolerble one, with peace and happiness for all?
I have met with anti semity and anti jewish hate in international bdsm and fetish sites, is this what we should put up with, let hatred raise  its ugly face and destroy any solidarity between us.

Look at the world at large- the questions and the answers will be the same.

Caretakr -> RE: hate and lonelyness (7/2/2006 7:53:51 PM)

We aren't a community-we are a bunch of individuals having kink in common-and very little else.

diamonddreamlove -> RE: hate and lonelyness (7/2/2006 7:57:02 PM)

Such is life.

TolerableCruelty -> RE: hate and lonelyness (7/2/2006 8:00:37 PM)

I'm not even so sure we even have a common "kink"... perhaps a few of us here and there share the same interests, yes... but you can find that anywhere. I merely consider us a gathering of individuals searching for a place to fit in... however, we're not able to pull it together and stop the bickering and petty differences long enough to actually make us a "community".

At least not on here... if we were all in the same locale, in real life, it may be an outside possibility... but even there I'm sure we'd have our little sub-cliques and squabbles amongst each other that would eventually tear the "community" apart... or at least weaken it enough to have an outside entity disassemble it.

just My thoughts,
T.R.

I've never held any hope for a coherent community where people can't even see thier own hypocrisy-much less overcome it.

I am sorry this has happened to you; I would really be surprised if that kind of thing went on in a blatant way on this website, though - I tend to think the moderators would put a stop to it. In the world outside of the internet, people can be really intolerant sometimes and I am sorry it's happened to you. Glad you are not "passing it on," so to speak - because (my opinion) the world doesn't really need any more hate mongers.

People are people, no matter where you encounter them.  Like many said, we are not a community.  I, too, am sorry you had to endure that.  Unfortunately, ignorant peope are everywhere.

shivvy -> RE: hate and lonelyness (7/3/2006 9:17:36 AM)

i'm sorry you've come up against prejudice, i think we all have at some point or another... i know i have[:(] i just wish we as a race (humans) would just let everbody get on with their lives as they wish to live them...

i think as a community, bdsmers are a lot more open than vanilla people, and like has been said, on here, i would be really surprised if anybody even cared if you woz religious, net alone wot religion you followed.. i don't think it matters one wee bit.. i'm a catholic, and i got friends who are muslims, jews, protestents and babtists... and they're just the ones who i know wot religion they are... but to me, it's who you are inside, not the name you call your god wotz important..., or colour, age, size, etc.

sorry, i prolly missed the point completely, but i just wished everybody got on betta - that's wot i wanted to say hun.

LadiesBladewing -> RE: hate and lonelyness (7/3/2006 9:24:36 AM)

Emek,

The BDSM/Ds/Ms population is a huge population, spanning cultures, borders, philosophies and boundaries. Whenever there is a group this large and this diverse, it is unreasonable to expect them to agree on -any- major issue. In fact, it is often easier to think of the BDSM/Ds/Ms population as, in a way, it's own separate country, without the land to go with it. There is a little bit of everything here, and most of the time, we can't even agree about what constitutes What It Is That We Do (WIITWD).

That being said, there -are- individuals within the community who share your goals -- but don't be disheartened by the ones who don't... just keep your own goals and ideals strong in your mind, and focus on drawing people to you who share your perspectives. They -are- out there.

Hello emek,

Speaking entirely for myself, I have no interest in creating a better society for mankind and wouldn't search for it via a bdsm aspect.

When I relate to other people, bdsm has little, to no, influence on it.

Raising my sproglets to be open-minded and caring individuals will make a difference SOMEWHERE in the world, however small.

I'd certainly not look for, nor expect, acceptance and understanding in or through bdsm.

Regards, agirl

thank you all for your responses, it is important for me to here what you have to say. even when we dont agree on a subject , we are still ppl who hold some thoughts about letting us live our lives the way we want it to and not to be persecuted for our sexsual oriantation.
Just today we were announced that 'the cage radio', Israel's biggest bdsm sites internet radio , has to be shut down because someone has decided that it is imoral to play israeli songs on bdsm radio. Ive read that gay palestinians are getting sloughtered in the streets at the west bank for just being gay. How terrible is that!!! and nobody does a thing to stop it. we had some cases before where goverment and municipal officials went out of their way to prevent gay and bdsm events to take place in Israel.
thoes are things that we might be able to help eatch other with , to make law makers see our point too.
there is a group forming in Israel right now, with a goal of gathering information for goverment officials how to deal with sexsual harrassments on bdsm level ,  for the media what is bdsm and for parlament members to stop us from being blocked and picked upon all the time.
this is a community effort that is important to pass farward!

The ability of human beings to respond with hatred, evil and stupidity to their fellow beings is astonishing in its scope, its regularity and the ease with with the governments of the day manage to find some excuse for it.
Whether it's persecuting Jews, blacks, women, gays, kinksters or whoever, there will probably (sadly) always be some group willing to stand up to cast the first stones.
But, slowly, surely, at glacial pace but still moving... we do seem to be evolving. The formation of the group you mention is an indication of that.
For some reason though, human beings never seem to be able to evolve as a race without it being cruel, painful and bloody.

emek it really doesn't matter if we are individuals or a community because intolerance and prejudice are alive and well wherever you go.

How do we get rid of Intolarance? Make sure YOU aren't.

As others have stated, I'm sorry that you have met with predjudice. As for the bdsm community being a shining example of tolerance, errrr, some are and some aren't. We're human before we're kinksters.

And hey; that getup you're in on your pic reminds me of The Tick [:D].

See...... some would take my last statement as mean or intolerant; of course, they're wrong.

Listen. There are good and bad people in all walks of life. Thankfully I've learned to live the, dont judge a book by its cover philosphy. But I think I'm actually rare.

Rare or not, like the other poster wrote, Ive raised my 4 children to be tolerant. And THAT, is a major contribution for the good. So some us of do try. A lot in fact.

Chin up. Good things are in store for you, even in a world full of hatred and chaos.
