MalcolmNathaniel -> An odd question: Asian por stars. (11/3/2013 4:31:54 PM)

About twenty years ago I decided to name my computers after Asian porn stars.

The thing is that I haven't watched any porn lately. But I do have a new computer. So I need a new name for her. So what I need is the name of a hot Asian chick and a picture of her. For preference she would only be wearing heels.

Congratulations on posing the weirdest question I've ever seen on CM, MN!

I do my best.

I love Asian Mistresses

Not really understanding why you would want someone else to do the leg work. It's your new computer to name.

MalcolmNathaniel -> RE: An odd question: Asian por stars. (11/3/2013 5:14:54 PM)

I am not interested in your fetishes.

This actually falls into the category of OCD for me. I made a decision decades ago about how to name my computers and now I am bound by it. I really wish that I had chosen redheads, but I didn't. So now I need a picture of a beautiful woman from the continent of Asia.

East Asia, BTW. Burkas don't really set my blood on fire.

It's called being lazy.

Also, I am pretty sure that anyone who undertakes the task will not find it onerous.

Jade Marcela

Miko Lee

Kaylani Lei

Out of the 50 listed, you should be able to find one.

It's worthy of Honorable Mention, but Lookie remains the undefeated champion of weird thread questions, IMO.

MasterCaneman -> RE: An odd question: Asian por stars. (11/3/2013 6:21:01 PM)

Could be worse, he could have named them after Pokemon characters...

MalcolmNathaniel -> RE: An odd question: Asian por stars. (11/3/2013 6:53:16 PM)

Kaylani Lei wins!

Now to find the desktop picture. The background for her twitter page is OK, but not brilliant.

If it's important to you: this computer is a 3.04 GHz Dell running Kubuntu 13.10.

Spiritedsub2 -> RE: An odd question: Asian por stars. (11/3/2013 7:04:08 PM)

Did you name your computer "Dell Lei"?

Malcolm, not that I watch a lot of porn, you understand, but there is a lovely British Indian girl who goes by the name of Destiny Deville, I've been told. Of course, I wouldn't know personally [:)].

I hope I've been of help.

MalcolmNathaniel -> RE: An odd question: Asian por stars. (11/4/2013 3:33:13 AM)

I am resisting the urge to read between the lines.

The thing is that a British-Indian won't have the epicanthal fold that I need for the naming of the computer. I did mention that it's sort of OCD. Thanks for playing though!

Kaylani Lei won the contest.

Ah, it's got to be an eastern lady that looks suitably *inscrutable*. Gotcha. ;-)

FR~

I name my computers on something that springs up when I'm rebuilding them or installing them.
But I don't have any particular theme as such.
Bearing in mind I'm building these machines from scrap parts that I acquire, usually via freecycle, some of the names are quite odd.

Example:
One Dell optiplex 260 I was rebuilding was being such a cow I kept calling it a flaming Dell.
So I ended up finding a Dell logo backdrop that was on fire and put "Flaming" above it and hence its name.

Another one, a Compaq Evo machine was being a right pain-in-the-ass when it came to getting a video card working properly in it.
It ended up being called Evil Evo.

An old E-Sytem 308 I was given was ok and ran quite well and was deathly quiet (really good fans in it).
I gave it some extra Ram I had laying around and a half-decent graphics card and it ran as smooth as silk.
But finding motherboard drivers for the thing was a real bitch!
I looked at the mobo and saw it was a Foxconn something and just by chance, the video card was also a Foxconn badged one.
I found a lovely picture of a fox prancing in the snow and it became the Fox machine.

We also have Icarus, Nova, Breunhilda, Midget, Fox400, IX48, Rayvern, Skull, Obelisk, Pia and the Print Server.
Every single one has a history behind how it got its name as opposed to something chosen arbitrarilly.
No doubt something will come to mind when I build the next one, it always does. [:D]

Sorry I can't really help MN, but I didn't restrict myself at the very beginning; especially to such a narrow subject.

It has nothing to do with inscrutability. If I wanted inscrutability I'd go to the House of the Venerable and Inscrutable Colonel. He is venerable as his white beard and the dogwood blossom on his chest show. He is inscrutable because he never gave up the secret of the eleven herbs and spices.

And I totally stole that from Neal Stephenson.

The Optiplex GX-260 had the Dell clamshell case. Besides being entirely proprietary those computers were just the worst. You have to feel around with your hands to make sure the cables don't get stuck in the wrong way.

When I worked for G.E. in their power lab they put me in charge of the network because "I seemed to know something about computers." The first thing I did was get rid of all the Optiplexes in the labs. Actually, they were GX-270s and GX-280s. There was a recall on the GX-270 but not the one we had in place. I "neglected" to tell them that it wasn't the model we had. I just wanted rid of the things. The Optiplex has been my nemesis for well over a decade.

And what is that sitting on my dining room table? Oh, it's another clamshell Dell that climbed out of the pits of Hell just to screw with me.

Oh yeah!
Those type of Dell's are a freaking nightmare to work on!
I got more cuts and bruises working on that mofo than any other machine I have here.
Any other machine: slip the side panel off, swivel it around and you can work on it.
That Dell?? Gotta unplug everything and take it right out, lay it on its side and open it before you can do anything with it. And to do anything in-situ was a nightmare in itself.
If it wasn't for the fact I got it given to me for free, I wouldn't have it.
It earned it's name.... I tamed the name down from another F word; but you get the picture.

The ultimate answer to your question is my "freshman buddy" Asia Carrera.
