Omg y'all.
Ok so hallmark has this God awful sweater
for Christmas that says " don we now our
fun apparel"

What's wrong with how it's written originally?!
The term gay apparel has nothing to do with sexual orientation!
Right?

I kinda understand where they're coming from.

The use of the word has changed since the song was written. Kind of like the word "fantastic" used to be used to describe unbelievable and mind blowing, now it means something good or wonderful.

And the reality was that someone probably would have found it offensive had they left the word "gay" and put it on an awful holiday sweater.

TNDomme,

We live in the age of absolutely stupid extremes in political correctness. A friend of mine sent me a copy of a police report she had to put in a file for a DA.

The key phrase she noted was "a person of the opposite sex than male"

The officer was either using a new, previously unknown designer drug, or got an earful from the woman he arrested for calling her a female.

Or the cop was being a smartass in response to being told not to use some other politically incorrect terms. When I worked for the police we had an actual list of words we were not allowed to use. It was an object of great mockery.

But yes, that is stupid. I understand some people might not want to buy a sweater that says 'gay' but then why not just pick a different song lyric? Why would you want a sweater with mis-quoted lyrics on it?

I think the perfect holiday sweater would be something like:

US Army Rangers
(image of skull)
Mess with the best,
Die like the rest.
Merry Christmas.

It's a shame.
Really.
I think people who are being offensive should get an old fashioned ass whoopin, and the ones who aren't should carry on.
Dang

"A person with no hair on their chest and plus-sized funbags."

Would that work in that situation. Let's see how far I can take this:

"The person of interest was human but not of the gender that typically shows up as a person of power in historical treatises."

Did I obfuscate that enough?

Sounds good to me, but I thought this thread was actually about coming up with holiday sweater ideas for hallmark. I think the idea I suggested was holiday enough, well we could put a santa hat on the skull picture....
