If that is true, then why did you come here are and ask would it be best to calm them, using one or more of my very effective methods, or would it be best to leave them to "stew" for a while? Seems to me like you would have figured that out after years of practice.

I enjoy forums as they give one an opportunity to broaden their horizons and get opinions about things you have done for years but from perhaps a different perspective. This allows one to move out of the box we sometimes find ourselves in from habit. Thanks for asking the question.

What I know intellectually and what I feel in a non analytic state such as when bound are entirely different.

I didn't like rope for many of the reasons already cited, especially the tightening a struggle can cause. Aside from a 'fast rope' (like the rodeo guys do), I avoided it. Another reason is, frankly, I suck at tying knots, a personal failing since I was a Boy Scout. I know five or six, but they're only utility knots good for camping and work, not play. I lean towards medical-grade restraints for a long-term scene, more than a few minutes to a few hours. Another reason is, good rope isn't cheap, and unless you're really good with it, you end up chawing it up with repeated play

And I'll offer a limited defense to the OP as to asking a question the already know the answer to. It's not a game, it just provides one with a differing take on a subject.

"To me" if Star panicked while bound under any circumstance then bondage itself would be off my list. A Dom must know what he is doing.

Should your interest change, I use .25 inch white rope from Lowes, cut it to several different lengths, 4, 8, 20 ft. works for me, and dress the ends beautifully and cheaply with bright white tape also from Lowes for bondage and non-stress shibari. If you keep them clean and the ends dressed they last a very long time.

I used to use milsurp climbing rope and whipped the ends with dental floss, as per the instructions of one of my peers at the club. My biggest problem was knot-tying, and half the time I'd end up using the rigger's pick or a blade to get my 'granny-knots' undone. Just never could repeat the same knot twice. The stuff I used had phenomenal strength, it's outer shell was a synthetic blend with a good balance between suppleness and friction, and a lot of the rope specialists in my area tended to use it, especially for suspensions.

I'm also biased because when I was working in the club, when something went wrong with rope, it was usually an all-hands emergency, but when a mechanical restraint went south, it was more of an inconvenience while we either picked the lock or cut it off, although the antique-handcuff afficionados I used to rub shoulders with might disagree on that distinction.
