ORIGINAL: MercTech This thread has me thinking of what is a "real slave" in current society. I came up with two thoughts A> Someone under a personal service contract that honors the contract whether legally enforceable or not. B> Some one kept in bondage in what the law enforcement calls "human trafficking". Anyone else come up with another possible definition. In current society, I think there's such a thing as absolute slavery & relative slavery. Absolute slavery is self explanatory, however I would define relative slavery as anyone working for an employer & only getting say 70% of a living wage, or less. For 30% of his/her working life they are in fact slaves. I believe this cropped up on a thread a few months ago about the principle of tipping. Slavery is illegal in the civilised world, but is still practiced here & abroad by big business.
